You do understand that pretty much all MMOs require you to enter subscription info even before your trial period starts, right?
That's how it is with every subscription MMO. They're not doing anything out of the ordinary.
But nope, we gotta be GAMERZ THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT MONEY
Yeah, there was definitely some miscommunication going on there. Also, at the time of this comment I actually dont get sent to the Waiting Room page anymore. Can anyone else confirm/deny this?
I am now in the queue to *log in* to the site.
This is fucking crazy.
This launch hasn't gone according to plan, sure, but I'm really enjoying Star Wars again. Worth it.
That doesn't excuse the clunky account set-up (up-front security questions and reportedly some confusion over which key should be entered when) or, god knows, the broken (missing!) product codes. But there are *some* things they're actually getting right.
Logged right in. No queue. Seriously, I'm not even going to click on Jim's links anymore. So much fuckin bitching.
first day it came out, it was overwhelming, it took hours for people to log in back then.
I don't want this to be one of those internet comments where someone has a problem, and then some jerk who doesn't have the problem says, "Not a problem, it's just you." It's just that I see all of these posts saying how rough launch is, and for me and my guild, we've been having a blast playing a really solid game.
I think it's pretty obvious at this point that, in the interests of decency, they should have realized by this point at 2 in the afternoon, Eastern time, with this problem having persisted since 8 this morning when I woke up, that it's time to make the decision that their "grace period" simple wasn't long enough and wasn't communicated clearly enough. Extend the grace period a few days and let up play the damned game. But no, we've gotta sit in a website queue all day.
I dunno, I dislike bitching and generally advise against it...but this is way beyond ridiculous at this point.
They should have done some system-wide chat messages at least 2 days prior, especially if they saw that very few of their numbers were registering. That would have panicked me to see 1000 people had registered so far, for a game with over a million people playing (not the real numbers, just an example).
It's not Bioware's or even EA's fault that 2+ million idiots are trying to register their product all at once. The smart ones got it done already... there was a step by step process for getting your account set up IN YOUR FUCKING PROFILE for the last two weeks.
Sweet, sweet Schadenfreude... I drink of all your pain...
As for the miscommunication Jim, yeah its stupid, but did you try to use their site at all over the course of.. well.. ever? The entire site itself is pretty confusing all around, and its mostly VERY stupid design flaws and flow problems.
Like, take guild starting system they've now taken down (yet haven't replaced with a guild FINDING system as far as I can tell) You'd see "This guild started by (just an example) Jim Sterling" with that name being a link to be able to contact them -however- when you click that name, 9 times out of 10 you were sent to a completely different person's page/PM info, and just as often those people had nothing to do with the guild you were looking at. This is probably why I kept getting messages asking for guild invites when I've never attempted to start one.
You'd have to click around for another few minutes (usually going into the guild roster itself, I think) to get to the the real leader of the guild to message them or whatever. And thats if they even saw the message pop up (most got lost limbo). Then, there was an issue with those PM's where you couldn't access the mail, it was tell you you had a number of messages in "Storage" but not a link in sight to get to them.
And this doesn't even account for the fact that the site LOVES to reject my passwords, forcing me to recreate a password nearly every time I need to log in.
Either way, I'm truly happy I had the foresight to do this a few days ago, on the proper launch day.. Cause this is a mess.
(Side question/note: Who's really to blame? Is it BioWare's site or EA's? One of the main issues with this blame game isn't the blame itself (like Ovenden2k feels the need to do) but more-so the fact that I don't think anyone knows who to properly blame.)
Do you even play MMOs at launch or are you one of the little brats who got "Baby's First MMO?" This is the norm for pretty much every MMO that has come out in recent years and you are stuck in queue because you have probably 900,000 people attempting to get into the site to register and that is why you are having problems with it. The server queues are the exact same way, Fatman and Freedom Nadd being the best examples, because of idiots not wanting to leave the server to actually play the game when Bioware has listened to the need to open more servers and has started to beg players to move on to different ones.
I don't know if you have programming experience or even website development experience but you are stupid if you think nearly 1 million people piling into a website to do a certain action won't seriously break the server down.
Again, if you had read the website, there was plenty of communication and as far as the missing product codes go, don't be blaming the companies that made the game. Blame the factories that are contracted for not assembling the physical copies properly.
*NOTE: I have my own share of problems in-game and despise EA and even Bioware as a company to an extent and I am not openly defending them but, as I tell all morons, Bioware cannot fix stupid.
Like a few other folks here, I'm far from a fan of EA.. or Bioware, for that matter. But fair's fair.
Also, as I previously said, anybody who is bitching about having to subscribe to start the trial is retarded. Welcome to paid sub MMOs, been the norm for YEARS. Don't like it? Don't play MMOs!
Now shipping pre-order games without registration codes and not responding in a timely manner or extending the grace periods to customers who pre-ordered your games 4 months ago? That's a dick move
I was aware that I needed to register right away to ensure uninterrupted access today, but I couldn't, and haven't heard anything back despite emailing them a scan of my receipt to prove I purchased the game. So I won't be playing today. Basically being punished for EA's mistake despite making every effort to get this stuff all figured out as far in advance as was possible.
How's the game broke, cupcake? Do you give a bad review for a movie because all showings were sold out, and you were too stupid to buy a ticket ahead of time?
I'll wait til all the launch bugs are fixed.
