Sims 3 sells boatloads,
undeterred by piracy.
The Brits love it too.

Lots of new content
and a saucy naked patch
may have helped drive sales.

EA celebrates;
they enjoy profits you see.
PR after jump.

REDWOOD CITY, Calif., June 9, 2009 – Electronic Arts Inc. (NASDAQ: ERTS) today announced that the hotly anticipated The Sims™ 3, stormed retail shelves starting June 2nd and sold thru more than 1.4 million PC/Mac units within the first week making it the best-selling PC launch in EA’s history. Late night news! Rabble rabble! <3

This just blows my mind. 1 week of release and it sells nearly more than Mega Man 2's 1.5 million lifetime copies! Apply that brain buster to any "hit" game we know and love. Plus, The Sims 3 was leaked like no one's business.

I bought it, its mad. Kind of expected more in the way of sales, not exactly Halo 3 level... maybe it wasn't so undeterred by piracy? Moar expansions might fix that. Haikus also.

Sim me is already a famous author, living in his squalid shanty and finding ass-random rubies just laying around on the sidewalk. I'm lucky to finish a single ruby-less paragraph in MY squalid shanty...

Also I bought $90 worth of point cards during that 1/2 off sale. I'm not really sure why.

Virtual life is sooo much cooler than real life, ala the Sims 3.

The people who buy the sims are unlikely to be the same people who pirated it.
