Destructoid is gaming news, community, videos, and sometimes love. Take the tour or jump in with Facebook:

Penny Arcade promotes their game with flamebait from their biggest critic photo

Denis Duckfat hates Penny Arcade ... and they're loving it.

The ads (see gallery below) are the direct opposite of what you'd expect -- instead of using positive review quotes from gaming publications (11/10! -Cashwh0re), they went with the most ridiculous comments that one hater has been systematically posting on Wired. Little did he know his belligerent flamebaiting would one day become their national ad campaign for On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, Penny Arcade's new game on Xbox Live! How's that for a last laugh?

After we saw the ads, Destructoid dug up some additional info on this notorious critic -- DDF has been busy trolling the internet since 2005 on various forums and web sites, many of which have banned him for hatemongering senselessly. According to his abandoned Blogspot, he's a tubby game industry guy that "works on boring games every 4 years." The only thing he claims to hate more than Penny Arcade is Penny Arcade fans (as well as all music games, GTA, Tomb Raider boobs, and Xdude), and also has a few more colorful things to say in another Wired blog comment

Penny arcade sucks and is unfunny. please murder penny arcade and then yourself if you disagree with me.

Can you imagine this douchelord's facial expression when he finds out he's responsible for one of the better ad campaigns we've seen in gaming this year?

We hope DDF has a good sense of humor and urge him to apply as a speaker at PAX to share his heightened taste of games and love of William H. Macy with the rest of us.

Very clever marketing idea. Props to them.

That said, I've never understood the fapping to Penny Arcade-- I've never found them funny or cool. I find it ironic they've been so trollish about video games (they were among the Internet kids freaking out about Metroid Prime), when their own video game has been very hit-or-miss in reception.

In all honesty, the guy is probably thrilled by the attention. Still awesome though.

Holy shit, his posts are amazing. To anyone who accuses ME of trolling for having opinions on games, I now have a handy reference to show them how it's really done.

I don't know, this seems like more of a way to keep him going than anything else. He's in the spotlight now.. look out.

I love it. When I was studying advertising I noticed that the products that are willing to make fun of themselves are generally the ones that know they have a good product (Volkswagen, iPod, FedEx). When the ad execs unclench it's just more fun for everyone involved.

Clever advertising or not, if the interweb is anything to go by, the XBLA sales are going to be a little disappointing. With the 1,600 MS points they are asking, you'd think by the reactions that there was a free case of the clap in every download.

Then again, it is pretty damn expensive when compared to other episodic stuff like Sam and Max ($8.95 an episode).

I'm sure he's going to love it. His hate mongering was probably originally so people would pay attention to him, but now he's got all the attention in the world. More site traffic, more this and that.

He probably has a raging boner and is fucking STOKED right now.

Deenis Ducktwat is right, you know. PA is not funny. I repeat: Not funny. Their jokes rely on context. And genitalia. Their jokes rely on context and genitalia. And observation. Their...aah, forget it.

Haven't ready anything from Denis that I'd disagree with. Maybe he can make some $$$ off of those bleeding cuntholes.

Denis Duckfat = Denis Dyack? PA did give him a hard time about early game reviews, and vise versa.

you really paid $20 for the game? I picked up a 1600 pt card from Target (on sale for $15) and stacked a $10 off 360 software coupon, persuading the cashier to use it, then came home and bout PA ep 1...$5 and definitely worth it.

I'd like the PA guys to just go away. Granted they do excellent charity work, but the awful writing on their page is too much to bear.

It's as if they purposely run their text through a thesaurus program and then through a "not funny" filter.

Very rarely do their comics get a chuckle anymore and the game is pure ego stroking.
