Denis Duckfat hates Penny Arcade ... and they're loving it.
The ads (see gallery below) are the direct opposite of what you'd expect -- instead of using positive review quotes from gaming publications (11/10! -Cashwh0re), they went with the most ridiculous comments that one hater has been systematically posting on Wired. Little did he know his belligerent flamebaiting would one day become their national ad campaign for On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, Penny Arcade's new game on Xbox Live! How's that for a last laugh?
After we saw the ads, Destructoid dug up some additional info on this notorious critic -- DDF has been busy trolling the internet since 2005 on various forums and web sites, many of which have banned him for hatemongering senselessly. According to his abandoned Blogspot, he's a tubby game industry guy that "works on boring games every 4 years." The only thing he claims to hate more than Penny Arcade is Penny Arcade fans (as well as all music games, GTA, Tomb Raider boobs, and Xdude), and also has a few more colorful things to say in another Wired blog comment:
Penny arcade sucks and is unfunny. please murder penny arcade and then yourself if you disagree with me.
Can you imagine this douchelord's facial expression when he finds out he's responsible for one of the better ad campaigns we've seen in gaming this year?
We hope DDF has a good sense of humor and urge him to apply as a speaker at PAX to share his heightened taste of games and love of William H. Macy with the rest of us.
How does Nintendo go about promoting Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D? By scaring the hell out of little kids.
[This week Destructoid is paying the bills with The Cheetapult. While I'd love to smugly pose next to a few bags of Cheetos it's been done, so I'm just going to rub some on my chest.]

Typically, when it comes to videogame ads at least, actors don't usually do a good job of promoting a game. That's not the case here with these SimCity ads, thankfully. Actor Adam Devine of Workaholics fame did a few promos for the game and they're all pretty funny. Fancy that.

ZombiU is, by all accounts, a pretty decent game that uses the Wii U's GamePad in some interesting ways. It's helped breathe new life into a genre that's been in decay for the better part of a decade. And hey, if nothing else...

I enjoyed watching Robot Chicken on Adult Swim back in college, but it never felt like it had true staying power. Why new episodes are still being made, I have no clue. Then again, this is the same network that is still chur...
