We've been talking about Penny Arcade's upcoming game On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness since way back last year, long enough ago that I had actually forgotten about it a little. After all, six months in real-life time is 500 years in Internet chronicles. Luckily, I had a reminder today in the form of nearly instant gratification: the game hits XBLA next week!
If you forgot too, I'll refresh you: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness is an episodic RPG title featuring Gabe and Tycho of Penny Arcade fame on a quest through the 1920s to save...well, we aren't sure what they're out to save, exactly, but it's pretty much assured we'll be laughing the whole way, whatever it is.
The game debuts on May 21st and will cost 1600 points to download on XBLA (it can also be purchased for $19.95 for PC, Mac or Linux). Go download some wallpapers from the official site in the meantime and get ready -- this is gonna be good. In fact, I think I feel a yard sale coming on.
PENNY ARCADE GAME LAUNCH DATE CONFIRMED Worldwide Digital Launch on Wednesday, May 21
VANCOUVER, British Columbia - May 13, 2008 - Hothead Games today announced that Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, Episode One will be available worldwide both via Xbox Live® Arcade (except Korea) and via the Greenhouse digital distribution platform (www.playgreenhouse.com) for the Windows®, Mac®, and Linux® versions next Wednesday, May 21.
Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, Episode One is an RPG-Adventure game set in the deranged 1920s universe of New Arcadia, delivered to gamers via accessible episodic releases. Players join Gabe and Tycho, the crime-solving team of the Startling Developments Detective Agency, to combat savage enemies and solve mysteries hidden deep in the sinister heart of New Arcadia. The game is the result of close collaboration between Hothead Games and Penny Arcade, featuring distinct artwork and characters designed exclusively by Mike "Gabe" Krahulik, story and dialogue by Jerry "Tycho" Holkins, both brought to life by the Hothead team.
Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness, Episode One is expected to offer players six to ten hours of gameplay, and is priced at $19.95 for the Windows, Mac, and Linux versions and at 1600 Microsoft points via Xbox Live® Arcade. The game has been rated "M" for Mature by the Entertainment Software Ratings Board for all platforms.
mmm witty dialog and monstrous fruit fuckers. I'm guessing there will be more than one penis joke as well. I certainly hope so. If its anything like the comic, it'll be worth the money.
And when did gamers start complaining about $20 games? Did I miss a memo here? Dios Mio, I thought paying $60 was bad. $20 is good in my book.
That is an insane price...And Bionic Commando Rearmed is out this month, anlong with the Rocketman pack, and anything else..PA is ok, but for 20 bucks they can sit and spin.
I think some of you are forgetting that this isn't just a simple XBLA game. This is like somewhere between an XBLA game and, say, a Wii game. So $20 is about right.
What the fuck is "greenhouse digital distribution platform"? The comic itself is on Steam. Why isn't the game? I've already got accounts on three seperate digital dist. setups (Valve's, Blixzard's, and Stardock's), I really don't want a FOURTH.
$20? I love PA all day, but I don't think I'll be buying this if it's really short... and the movies I've seen of it, while kinda funny, don't really inspire confidence.
