PC version of Braid gets price drop before it's even released, now $14.99 photo

When Stardock announced that it would be selling the PC version of Braid online for $19.99, the Internet went cuh-ray-zee. I mean, the game only cost 1200 MS Points ($14.99) on the Xbox LIVE Arcade, so what the hell, right?

Everyone relax -- the game's price has been dropped to $14.99. Stardock's Director of Publishing, Brian Clair, says that even if you pre-ordered the game at $19.99, you're still only going to be charged the updated pricing. Yay!

So why the price drop? Because you guys bitched, that's why. And the game's developer, Jonathan Blow? While he originally tried to price it in line with other successful indie games on the PC (World of Goo or Aquaria, for example), he just doesn't care what it costs, really.

"The XBLA version was nicely profitable," he writes on the Braid development blog, "and my goal with the PC release is mainly to get the game out to a wider audience."

"But ultimately, I would rather have people talking about the game itself, what they like or dislike about it, than about how many American Fiat Currency Dollars it costs," he concludes.

PC gamers and the five dollars they'll save thank you.

Jonathan Blow said he would never port it to the PS3, but it was a possibility that he would pay someone to do it for him, however unlikely that might be.

Actually, they won't NOT-torrent it.

They'll just torrent it.

Jokes getting old, dude.

I love you.

I would instantly but it regardless of price. That is if it was on Steam... I don't really like Impulse...

Good news indeed, but I already have it for the 360.

"American Fiat Currently Dollars?"

What does that even mean? Is there supposed to be a comma or some parenthesis in there somewhere?

Am I being dense, or is the grammar in that last sentence just wrong?

It's a douchebag move to price a port more expensively than the original version, since customers had to wait. WTF was Blow thinking.

The lower the price the better. I got it for free on XBLA (Spike contest), and while I thought it was pretty enjoyable, I wouldn't pay more than $5 for it.

I played this on my friends Xbox and was blown away. One of the most fun charming games I've had the pleasure of playing in quite some time. I'm definitely buying this on PC as long as it's on Steam. I just can't bring myself to buy anything if it isn't on Steam nowadays.

It's a typo. It's supposed to read "currency".

Well... my first reaction was "sweet! I might not pirate this!"

Then I saw this:
he just doesn't care what it costs, really.
"The XBLA version was nicely profitable,"

... and I'm pretty sure I'm still going to pirate it. Fuck Jonathan Blow.

I'd get it for PS3, but that is a control preference. I can't find a controller I like for the PC. They never feel right. I've tried something like 4 different ones and I've never found one that works for me.

I find the PS2 controller works pretty good on PC. I paid $7 for a two slotted adapter. Or y'know a 360 controller if you're so inclinced (to be fair I got the stupid Wireless PC adapter for free, but if you have anything other than a standard 360 controller, odds are it's wired and good to go).

Oh and PS3 controllers should play nice with a cheap blue tooth adapter I believe.

Huzzah! Can't wait! I'd definitely purchase it at $20, but $15 sounds even better.

This is sweet, I'll most likely get it now. Not that 5 bucks is that much money, it was the thought of having to pay more for something after getting it way later.

As for PS3 controllers, there are drivers you can get that will make them work on your PC, just do some searching.

@ Wedge

I had no idea you could use the ps3 controller on the pc. Sweet. If that is the case, I will legally purchase this game and play it with my PS3 controller.

Yeah, god forbid that game developers make a profit off of games they create.

If it's not available on Steam, Impulse will work for me. But i'm still holding out, but only due to the potential for Achievements. Otherwise I much prefer the ability to download it and just keep the package forever from Impulse (I back up my digital non-steam purchases from Impulse and GOG).

We'll see. But it's nice. I might just send him $5 extra bucks through paypal for being such a nice guy.
