still haven't played Payday (waiting for the price to go down during the summer sales), but this sounds fantastic. i can see a lot of different ways in which they could combine the gameplay of the two games and all of them seem neat as fuck.
Both fantastic, if flawed, cooperative games that I thoroughly enjoyed so far being in one circle-jerk? Count me in.
Man, we finally get a cool heist game and what happens? They throw zombies in it. I'm sure it'll be cool or whatever, but this does not bode well for my dream of an Oceans 11 style game.

OneRed: Well, we still *have* The Heist, and considering I'm expecting this to be an update or expansion, I doubt it's being done at the great expense of anything else. We still have the original Heist, and I'm sure if Overkill's still kicking, we have a chance of an improved sequel. I don't get being upset at this new offering which could potentially be a great addition to both existing properties.

I can't say I'm upset by it, on it's face. Everything you said could be absolutely true, and it could end up enriching both series to everyone's greater enjoyment.
On a personal level, however, it's hard for me to hold hope that gaming will go down the "stylized heist" road (a genre I feel has been largely unexplored), anytime soon knowing how niche a game like that would be when the game that was a truly solid step in that direction is taking its next step towards something more broad market friendly.
My disappointment doesn't stem from this particular idea itself, but from the notion that someone somewhere doesn't think a heist game can sell on the merit of the would-be genre, let alone a game that takes it to more uncharted territory. It may or may not be unreasonable to draw that conclusion, but it's exactly how I feel about this right now, and I totally reserve the right to flip flop on it if afforded the opportunity to sometime down the line.

Instead of robbing banks you are raiding grocery stores during a zombie apocalypse against guys who have the place locked down. Food is the new gold in the Zombie world and these guys are looking for cold hard cans. Lock and load as they take on hordes of zombies while fighting against other survivors desperate to survive.

It's a Steam game so the key activates on Steam without any issue. The Steam payday sale will be very soon as soon as the DLC is unlocked, it's already been added in the last patch.

We don't know what they have in store. This could very well still remain a heist game but only with a change of scenery. For all we know, the entire game/expansion can be about pulling off Heists while everyone is distracted by the zombie apocalypse. Which to be honest, that sounds kind of sweet.

I played Payday on the free weekend but didn't put down the cash. This seems like it could be cool, though. Expanding the L4D world can only be a good thing anyway.
A while back Overkill mentioned 3 new heists were on the way and that not all would be paid dlc, with two heists confirmed by the latest patch to be part of the "Wolf Pack" dlc, it sounds like this L4D crossover will be the free one.

So while robbing a bank, the clerks will turn into zombies? Is that how it works? Not that I mind, L4D was never about story (and I imagine Payday isn't either)... I'll buy it! Maybe the thieves could be the down on their luck Midnight Riders, only to end up as zombies themselves! But otherwise as someone said yeah, female characters please.
This'll probably be a blend of breaking into some location and fighting off hordes of zombies. Sounds cool, but I wonder if the Heist characters of Left 4 Dead characters will return, or will new criminals and survivors be protagonists of this game.
Maybe criminals try to break into something like a bank vault, but the zombie outbreak starts during their robbery. Whatever it is, I'll be interested.
