[Update: The official YouTube video was taken down, but IGN managed to snag it before it was hidden.]
I've been looking forward to seeing how the whole Payday: The Heist and Left 4 Dead crossover was going to happen. Today, we're treated to the debut trailer which shows the clown-faced criminals of Payday in Left 4 Dead's No Mercy hospital.
The Payday criminals are at the hospital on a mission to retrieve some blood from a patient in quarantine. Is this perhaps patient zero, and is this what unleashes the whole outbreak in the first place? The YouTube description asks "Have you ever wondered how the Left 4 Dead series began?" Followed by, "It started with a heist!"
As far as crossovers go, this is looking really awesome.
Not really THAT epic. It's just playing a normal game of PayDay in a L4D map, something that can already be easily done with mods. It's cool that there's an attempt (even if barely) to touch on a sense of story here, but we all know that in the end it won't matter cause nothing new will really be revealed here nor will anything mentioned here be canon anyway.
BUT... if this level is released to people who own L4D1/2 and NOT PayDay, then that'll get me a little more hyped up cause then I will end up playing it. But as it is, this doesn't get me interested enough that I'm gonna buy PayDay just for this one thing. I'm know PayDay isn't a bad game, but between lack of harddrive space, limited funds, and the existence of other games, my priorities are elsewhere.
I had my reservations about this back when Jim wrote something on it, but this sounds really cool. Crossovers that enrich both sides are where it's at.
"Payday's criminals visit Left 4 Dead's No Mercy hospital and find the secret room where Valve is developing Half Life 3"
Seriously, Valve. I'm starting to lose it over here. Stop EVERYTHING that you're doing right now aside from making sure that Steam still functions AND GET THE FUCK TO WORK ON HALF LIFE 3.
Still pay day was not that great a game, I felt the parallel with left4dead in the game. While I enjoyed it during the free weekend that was also enough playtime for me.
I was just expecting a level that went along the lines of "Hey guys! There's some people in clown masks! Hi clown mask people!" This looks pretty clever.
Not to be left out of the "Oh we're going to be appearing on the Xbox One as well!" parade is Bungie, as they too revealed that Destiny will be released on Microsoft's next-gen console.
