The only issue I'd would have is if they update the game too frequently -- then you have to end up spending $50 a month to keep up with the joneses -- the competitive community would pay it, but the casual fans would be left in the dust, looking at their empty wallets.
The infiltrator pack is a sign of great things to come. I hope each class gets an update every 6 weeks or so. This is definitely the best F2P game out there, in my opinion. It would take forever to unlock everything without playing, but you don't have to, since all upgrades require experience which is earned through playing. You can simply upgrade your 3 starting loadouts' gear and have fun, and then unlock the rest of the classes at a quick pace afterward.
I guess I should finally become a member before it officially launches, just so I can be a member of the VIPs. This game is definitely worth it, and I hope they continue to balance and add maps. E-Sports would actually benefit from having a shooter with as much strategy as this game.
My only two disappointment with the game are the ridiculously slow speed of machine gun bullets and how small the scale is compared to the previous games. Bullets in game seem to go the same order of magnitude as spinfuser discs. As for the scale, I wish the maps were bigger, bases had more intricacies, and they gave us strategy staples of previous games like laser pointers, beacons, and more weapon slots for bigger armors.
I also find the Infiltrator a tad overpowered for what they are. Used to be you needed a heavy to rapidly take down an enemy generator. Now, this speedy cloaked light walks in unhindered and does the same thing faster.
While I'm bitching, I might as well say that fractal grenades are the dumbest weapon ever.
There are some niggling issues with the game, but those don't bother me so much as I am positive the balance of the game will change like the tide as updates continue.
When I turned it on and got in for the first time, it was like somebody had hooked up a nostalgia tube directly into my skull and started funneling rainbows directly into my cerebral cortex.
It has al lot of things they can still improve...
Definitely agree with you on this matter. I do not know how much they can change but they could start by making vehicles and mobile inventory stations not useless and cost nothing but a "team resource" slot instead of personal player score. Seriously I see maybe 1 Shrike every 20 matches, that ain't right boys.
I still find the game great, it is better than Tribes Vengeance (not hard) and Tribes 1 but it is not nearly there on the awesomeness that is Tribes 2.
Raindance first appeared in Tribes 1, actually.
I tend to agree it really is fun but its no where to the scale of the first two and a lot of the nuance is gone. I certainly could have done without the streamlining but oh well its the closest thing we have.
I think of of the things that sorta bugs me the most is how limited the deployables are as to where they can be deployed. Everything must be on the ground. I guess it would be unfair if things weren't all in plain view.... hell people in the forums were complaining the landmines weren't visible enough ........... I dunno I always thought that was kinda the point myself :P
Woe are those for whom the landmines are not sufficiently visible in a game with freaking health regen .....
Sorry I seem to have prattled myself into a tangent, what were we talking about?
Don't get me wrong, I love the hell out of this game, but I would pay $50-$60 for a boxed copy so I don't have to get nickel and dimed to death!
Free-To-Play but not Pay-To-Win, this is the Best Multiplayer FPS I have played in a looong time...
