You can see on the gameplay parts it DOES look like they've toned it down to be more like it will be on a console. It doesn't seem to have much Anti-Aliasing, for example.

the fact that they manage the transition from cutscene to gameplay at ease is wow!!!
also the animations are much more fluid, snake can now go to crawl mode instantly without having to stop in one stop.

@Nathaniel607 this looks to be set after Portable Ops in 1970 and Peace Walker in 1974, but before Metal Gear in 1987. Enough time has to have passed from 1974 for Big Boss' hair to go grey. The Paz and Chico characters mentioned in the dialogue (I think it is Kaz/Master Miller talking to Big Boss) are from Peace Walker, in fact they kinda spoil parts of Peace Walker in this footage. Stongly suggest you pick up the HD collection and play Peace Walker through before this if you care about the story.

The blonde kid is probably Chico. I recall Jack/Raiden was a child soldier under Solidus, not Big Boss. The scarred is probably a new character, unless they bring back one of the three dead antagonists from Portable Ops or Peace Walker.
I had huge problems getting into Peace Walker too for quite some time after it came out. I kinda forced myself into it and once I got about 6-8 hours in I was hooked and ended up wracking up about 70 hours.
I know that is not exactly a ringing endorsement for a game, that it takes that long to get into it. It is very much a modular, designed-for-portable 30 minutes chunks game rather than a play-straight-through campaign. Once you unlock everything at the base and you get your head around how to farm what you want it really starts to click.

I doubt that kid is chico....big boss has greyed, in PW there wasn't a trace of grey...so estimate maybe 7-10 years after peace walker....chico wouldn't be a kid anymore....unless big boss got grey real fast

In my experience, the only reasons to play on a PC over a console is for the better framerates and loading speeds. I've played VERY few PC games where the actual graphics were better than the console equivalents on a level that made me care.

I honestly don't know how you guys get hyped over trailers. I feel like I'm missing out on something but can't tell what you guys see that I don't. I can just see PR guys letting us see what they want us to see. After the Halo 2 E3 trailer I will never be fooled again.

Only thing that interest me was the cheesy fourth wall breaking! Other than that I'm reserving my judgement until more gameplay footage is released. It sure looks pretty. On a pc.
Comparable to the PS3? Well you can compare any two things. I could compare an NES game to a PS3 game but that doesn't mean they'll look similar. :P

It does look like current gen systems could run this, but no where near the frame rate they were getting in that IGN video. Running at a smooth 60 FPS in that video, be lucky to have a steady 30 if it were on current gen systems. I believe the systems could handle it though.

Yeah, I for one am calling bullshit on that being what the final ps3 and 360 versions look like. I could be proven wrong but all of that was just too nice looking for me to believe this isn't some snake oil Kojima is trying to sell me.
@salamagogo Chico was 12 and Big Boss was 39 when Peace Walker took place in '74. I'd say that kid in the cage looks 14, maybe 16-17 in a pinch. Big Boss could theoretically go full grey in the space of 2-5 years between the age of 41 or 44. Maybe that seems stretch, and he does looks late 40s in the trailer. But factor in the Bikini Atoll testing that he did and it becomes a bit more believable. My best guess is this is set in 1978.
