PAX: Hands-on with Nights Into Dreams

2:00 AM on 09.04.2012

Nights Into Dreams, the 1996 Sega Saturn game that was re-released on PS2 in Japan, at long last will finally see a new iteration in North America. I got a chance to get my hands on this shiny high definition version at this weekend's PAX Prime, experiencing for the first time this bright and bouncy blend of 2D and 3D, coming next month.

Having never played the original, it was a bit awkward with the demo, as I've yet to truly balance the skill of flitting deftly between videogame dimensions. Nights Into Dreams relies on circling tracks of collectible items while navigating a 2D-3D space, an experience that is fun but also a challenge. Nonetheless, if you're already a fan, you'll probably be very happy with this new spiffed up version.

While playing, I only heard fan after fan praising its dedication to the original feel of Nights Into Dreams while refining its look. In addition to the updated graphics, you'll find achievements and leaderboards to up the ante on personal high scores. You can also play with the original graphics from the Sega Saturn release. Pick this one up on PC, XBLA, or PSN this upcoming October.

Atlus picks up EarthBound-inspired Citizens of Earth

It's been said before that a "failed" Kickstarter isn't the end -- that every dollar matters even if the total amount raised ultimately falls short. That's true for Eden Industries' Citizens of Earth, a role-playing game whi...more
