Braid designer Jonathan Blow and his new game, The Witness, were at PAX Prime. Chances are pretty high that you didn't play it, though -- it was tucked away in the booth for SpyParty and Monaco without any sort of labeling.
I must have walked past The Witness a good thirty times, but there was either someone already occupying the station or I was in too much of a hurry to stop and play. Over on his blog, Blow talks about wanting to take away the pressure that comes with the convention atmosphere.
"I didn’t want to give them any reason to think that this was a good game, or was by any designer they might have heard of," he writes. Thankfully for us, Kotaku's Stephen Totilo was able to capture footage of The Witness, which looks -- as you might expect -- very intriguing, even in this early state.
[Thanks, Tim]

"bitches love sandcastles" ... yet, there is no sandcastle in that photo. We may never truly understand his ways.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I can appreciate Blow's reasoning for keeping things (see also: expectations, preconceptions) on the hush for this early build and demonstration. I highly doubt the game will continue along its development path without any kind of publicity or marketing.
Fresh eyes can be incredibly valuable when playtesting your product.
I'm not sure Blow is doing this for that reason though. He's just being pretentious.
I can understand him coming off as a bit pretentious, but he does give some valid reasons for doing things the way that he has/does.
The game looks very interesting from what I've seen, and it makes me glad to know that the already brilliant looking graphics are still in their early stages. Very much looking forward to this.
"Firstly: At a show full of companies trying to capture your attention and sell you things, I wanted to do something that is subtle, and a surprise — if you notice it, and decide to investigate, you find something unexpected."
After watching the gameplay video, something about this quote makes me think it may be thematically related to the game itself.
