Quantcast

Destructoid was very privileged to be able to speak with f*cking Jon St. John, the man who has provided the voice of Duke Nukem in all of his games since 1995. Jon's buttery smooth vocal chords return in Duke Nukem Forever, and we caught him just as he got done signing autographs at PAX Prime.

In our short chat, we talk about stepping into the shoes of Duke after twelve years, the competition that the King faces and, of course, we get to hear what Duke Nukem himself has to say about Destructoid! Check out the video above, and a huge thanks to Jon for taking the time to talk to us!

Duke Nukem Forever could be average and dated, but I'm still thrilled Gearbox is growing it's stable of properties, as Duke could really fit there along side Borderlands really well. It'll be great to see what they do with the IP going forward. I'm always happy to see more shooters that have core sensibilities, but aren't going balls to the walls for realism.

... the voice doesn't seem in sync with the video... but otherwise, he seems like an awesome guy! (with a GREAT voice!). I never got to see Duke Nukem... longest continual line up at the show and my feet just couldn't take standing in a line for that long. :(

I've always find it weird to see voice actors do their characters outside of their medium. Seems like a cool guy.

@Elsa

I believe you meant fabric of time and space isn't syncing with his voice. It's quite a common desync issue when dealing with the Duke.

For some reason our video host has seen fit to do weird things to audio syncing on certain computers/browsers/something. I'm getting it looked into.

There was actually a PS1 era third person Duke game where Bruce Campbell did his voice, so Jon St. John hasn't done it in EVERY game.
