PAX 10: Destructoid Best of Show Awards photo

Destructoid would like to congratulate Super Meat Boy as our official PAX 10 Game Of The Show, an honor only second to waking up alone at Sizzler during the lunch buffet. I had a chance to check the game out personally on a pair of headsets and the meaty sound effects alone are worth the ticket of admission.  Congratulations to Team Meat!  Some of our community members also named it their game of the show: check our Ryan's impressions.

We'd also like to recognize our nominees: our editors are some of the toughest to please in the industry, so if even a few of them can agree on a title's worth, it must be damn good.  Here's our PAX Best of Show winners in no particular order:

Congratulations, everyone! As Jordan eloquently put it, PAX 10 was a big win for the small guys.  It was no surprise to me when so many of our editor's votes came back with a few titles that rarely see the spotlight. The next Destructoid awards will be handed out soon as we gear up for the Tokyo Game Show, followed by our Game of the Year during the holidays while you're drunk with grandmother.  I'm debating hosting that one at a boxing ring.

What was your game of the show?

A just reward. Super meat boy is going to kick some ass.
@bobyoko I think that they were only considering playable games on the actual show floor.

Super Meat Boy was indeed awesome. In fact a lot of the Indie developers brought their A game to PAX this year. Really makes the show feel less corporate, and more community based.

Although on the other hand... Portal 2, Duke Nukem, and MvC3 also did look pretty amazing. Cannot wait for them as well.

It's tough. On one hand, Super Meat Boy is made of meat. On the other, Kirby is made of fucking string.

Too close to call.

I can't wait for Meat Boy's Epic Yarn!
I played the flash version of Meat Boy and loved it.

Excellent, excellent list. I would kill to read some of the design notes for super meat boy and it's development process. The game is genius!

@ bobyoko- Technically, Bit.Trip FATE wasn't at PAX. It was at a hotel room near PAX. It's also been in my brain every day since the last time I played it, which was last Sunday.

Nice to see Meat Boy take the prize. I didn't get to play it, but I watched a lot of people do so and it looks amazing. The list of nominees makes total sense to me. I'm glad to see both Mortal Kombat and Donkey Kong Country Returns on the list--those were two of the biggest surprises for me at the show, and they totally deserve some love!

God damn it, I'm 20 years old. I first read about Duke Nukem Forever when I was like, 10 or 11, in PC Gamer Magazine. So...strange.

My game of the show was also a PAX 10 game, but not one of the two you guys had nominated. Bastion was incredible, and I was surprised when I was telling people about it on Sunday at Rock Bottom that several people didn't hear any buzz about it.

I assume not because Rock Band 3 isn't on the list.

What's with calling Enslaved game of the year and not mentioning it for game of the show, sorry just thought it was weird, is it because it's out soon or something?

But I'm really glad meat boy is as good as I had hoped that's a day one download for me, and I still can't believe Duke Nuke'em is coming out during my lifetime, it's astounding, it really is.

Confused to who voted for MvC3. I mean, it was pretty fun, but was anyone else disappointed they didn't reveal any new characters and that Thor and Amaterasu weren't playable. Like what a cocktease brah.

game of the show for me is obviously according to my tattoo Portal 2. was one of the very few that was able to actually play the co-op demo. biggest surprise of the show was Outland. Didn't not know that existed and was very surprised and happy.

No love for my game of the show: NBA Jam. I am not a sports guy at all, but it transported me back to the snes days of gaming, and the motion control was subdued and useful.

I'm surprised at how little coverage there has been of Portal 2 on any site. Everyone kind of glossed over that one.

Guild Wars 2 for me. Been waiting for three years, it's finally being shown off and everyone has nothing but positive things to say about it.

I didn't get my hands on a whole lot, but I was very happy with what I saw from Portal 2. You can't deny the appeal of BroBots. That said, I'm glad to see Meat Boy top the chart. It's a solid game that I'm sure won't see enough attention from other popular blogs. Go Dtoid!

Was Littlebigplanet 2 playable there? I've been following it since its reveal but have heard no news of it from PAX

Littlebigplanet 2 WAS playable there.

I tried to get in to play, but it seemed like everyone was hogging all the machines for hours and hours making overly-elaborate levels.

Sony was also selling the most adorable sackboys and were all sold out by the time I got to them. This made me really sad. The end.

The sackboys were sold out by noon on Friday. They had 5 stations against a LBP2 wall that 4 people could co-op on and it was a relatively short line (compared to KZ3, Portal 2, Halo, Fable, DA2, etc). They gave away an awesome sackboy shirt.

My game(s) of the show was Ilomilo and Kirby.
