[Update] Video up. Thank God.

Did you come to Dtoid LIVE at PAX 2010? It was a roaring success. Pants came off, sandwiches are made, and a dog dressed like Lady Gaga. It was pretty tight. This was also the first time that Commander Video met Jim Sterling. We'll show that to you as soon as possible. On top of that, we've got an exclusive look at Bit.Trip FATE as played by Destructoid editors past and present, including Aaron Linde, Papa Burch, Chad Concelmo, Anthony Burch, Ashley Davis, and yours truly.

In the meantime, chew on these screens of Bit.Trip FATE. It's the fifth game in the Bit.Trip series, and it's by far the most visually stunning, emotionally evocative, and action-packed game in the series. We couldn't put it down last night. I can't wait for you guys to play it. The video is uploading as we speak. I'll get that to you ASAP.

Stay tuned for more Bit.Trip exclusives throughout the weekend.

So I'm assuming you follow the line? But how does shooting work? GAH I NEED THAT VIDEO, HOLMES!

At least it still looks brilliant amidst all the confusion.

Nifty! So it looks like the Wiimote points at the screen, there'll be a trigger button, as well as two inputs for forward and backward (along the path)? I could totally be down with this.

@ Sentry- I wont get into it now, but I'll tell you that "take in the entire screen at one time" feeling that you get from the Bit.Trip series is back with FATE, and that's in part because the controls are extremely simple. Within second, you're playing the game without even thinking about it.

I have a guess how you'd play this thing. Very interested in the inevitable meaty preview!

So it's another on-rails shooter for the Wii. D:

Nah, just kidding. Looks awesome.

Looks awesome, but I'm not sure if it can pry my hands from my current 2d shooter addiction that is the psp ports of the KOF Sky stage games... Looks like I'll have to wait and see more.

You forgot to mention the slide that everyone at the panel needed gallons of eye-bleach for: Jim's cartoon butthole complete with smearage and a pile of poo!

so fate is a shmup? awesome! alex posted on fb that he used the zapper attachment to achieve his high score, so i'm assuming that the shooting is done with the ir pointer. which would make this game use the nunchuk? pure speculation, of course.

i have to say, the bit trip series has really been this gens saving grace. with all the sequels and cash in titles of late, it's nice to see a team like gaijin come along and change things up with every outing. it doesn't hurt that each title has been of outstanding quality, i guess...

How does this control? Wii Remote pointing at screen?
Jonathan Holmes's Avatar - Comment posted on 09/04/2010 23:25

@ neoREgen- Wii remote pointing at screen is involved, as it nunchuck. The controls are incredibly intuitive, while still feeling distinctly alien.

You'll get more of a feel for it when we finish editing the hands-on video.

This is out sometime in 2010 at least, right? That's all I care about. =] I'm really curious what the sixth game will be... They've covered a lot of the bases. Racing? RPG? Puzzle? Just a pure rhythm game?

I'd be more interested in this if not for Bit.Trip Runner being absolutely horrible, and this music sucking.

@ ScrappyDoo- Well, FATE sounds and plays in a very different style than RUNNER.

It seems to me that Bit.Trip, with its gradual increase in complexity both within each game and of the mechanics of the series as a whole, could serve as a perfect intro to games for non-gamers. Start them on BEAT and let them work their way towards FATE (and whatever's next).

This looks really interesting, although I'm a bit sceptical about the size of your hitbox. Seems like it'd be hard to dodge stuff properly. I like the curious take on on-rails-ness.

The dodging stuff properly more than likely has something to do with where exactly you are on that "on-rails" beam of light.
