Patterns is a sandbox-style building game with physics

7:30 PM on 09.20.2012

After getting heavily into Minecraft and a handful of titles that came into fruition following the success of Minecraft, I thought I was done with this style of game. Leave it to Linden Lab, of all places, to catch my attention with its "elegant, shared, 3D creative space" Patterns.

The company behind Second Life has partnered with Free Range Games on Patterns, which offers players the chance to manipulate additional shapes beyond merely blocks. For me, it's the "real-world physics" aspect that has me most interesting in tinkering around with this sandbox.

If you're similarly intrigued, be sure to sign yourself up for the beta.

Splatoon might just be Nintendo's most promising new game

When Nintendo announced its wacky four-on-four shooter Splatoon at E3, I thought it looked cool -- spraying ink on the battlefield and then swimming around in said ink is cool -- but I didn't freak out like some people. Havi...more

Shovel Knight looks great in 16-bit, Aegis Defenders just looks great

Oh my goooddd. How did I miss this until now? It's like a Nausicaa game. Thank you sir Shovel Knight for making a cross over appearance (above) in Aegis Defenders, which is how it came to my attention.  The Kickstarter already passed its initial funding goal and its PS4 stretch goal. Local co-op and a Wii U version are up next. Here's hoping. This looks amazing. more
