People need to stop labelling every hobby they do with their religion and sexuality for no apparent reason.
...and in the next Destructoid post, tits.
"Does anyone know any games that actively write a gay/bi character into the story (besides GTA)?"
MGS3's main villian, Volgin.
I took it, some of the questions were different than I expected. Interesting.
That doesn't do crimes? And mabye doesn't know Spanish? For once?
i'll admit that
this survey just shows that people don't accept homosexuality as normal, and that they have to a) consider the "demographic" when scripting storylines, and b) do a risk analysis on homosexual content
just write the goddamn stories, and play the goddamn games
why is it a big deal?
@ Eficent "You want to be treated equal then quit acting like your special."
Sure sure, that works. Because if african-american people just stopped worrying about it, we would totally have equal rights today. If women just said "you know, we'll just shut up about being equal and it will all turn out right" then the male chauvinistic attitudes would have adjusted on their own and women would have miraculously been given the right to vote, own land, and do anything they like equally.
No. No socio-economic group has ever been able to raise themselves to a level of equality without raising a "fuss." You need to speak up and raise awareness. People need to know that, even though things might seem different, we are all fundamentally the same and all deserve the same treatment and rights and representation in all forms of government, entertainment, and life in general.

I took the survey (bisexual over here) and it looked that was the turnout they were looking for. There were options like "A gay main character would a reason why I would NOT buy a game," but I think it was just there to be fair because the questions asked seemed to address LGBT concerns an narrow down the LGBT audience.
As far as labels go they're just labels. It's not hurting you. If people want to show their pride as Chrisitans or gays who play video games then so be it. In fact more power to them. They clearly have the intention of spreading video games around in their respective communities.
And this is hardly about labels, this is about equality. As silly as it may seem to people wanting homosexuality equality in games, it's completely justifiable. Because it simply comes down to 'why not?' Why shouldn't there be more gay characters in games?
People might not like to think it, but homosexuality is pretty normal and should be treated as such but it isn't, which is why things like this are a big deal. If you really want to question why this is a big deal, complain about the people who make homosexuality out to be a big deal when it doesn't effect anyone in any negative way unless that person is homophobic.
(survey taken, thanks for heads up)
And yeah, I think Fable 2 did it right. Mass Effect came close, but didn't include male homosexuality. Don't get me wrong, I love a good lesbian love scene like any other heterosexual male, but to only have lesbian content and not male homosexuality seems really stupid.
@ Bobothechimp - I'm a straight, Christian gamer that doesn't give a shit about sexuality in games. Bam.
Yeah, I posted that comment before actually looking at the survey. I wasn't going to take it, because I didn't want to contribute to what I assumed would be an unintentional imbalance (I'm not only gay, but a complete queer theory nerd), but now that I've seen it, it seems like it might have been a pink dollar thing more than an exposure thing.
Anyway, I took the survey, and I thought it was interesting. Can't wait to see the results whenever they come out.
@kefkaesque: Well, then I guess your options are already pretty limited. Bam!
I think you'd be surprised what you can connect with. We're just people.
>1% of games out there having a gay option, yet we still found a way to connect with straight protagonists. We must have, because, I mean, here we are, bothering everybody about how sick we are of rescuing princesses, ad nauseam.
I mean, don't get me wrong, I agree that it should be optional, but only because I know 1) how much it sucks to have to get used to not having an option that appeals to you, and 2) how pissed off straight people get when they get the same treatment as us.
I guess I worded what I said wrong, I have gay friends in real life so I know I can connect with them. It's just like, in a lot of movies/games the ending is the main couple kissing or something to that effect. And if I spent 40 hours playing an epic RPG and the ending was the two main guys kissing, it would be completely unsatisfying to me and more or less ruin the ending for me which is something really important to me in stories.
Am I being a biased dick for saying that? Yeah and I do feel bad for how homosexuals get treated in that effect, but I'm just telling you the truth about it, would it be better for me to lie and say that the game's story wouldn't be completely more satisfying to me if it were a guy and a girl together? I have no problem with gays and think that the way they're treated is unfairly, but I'm not lie and say that if there were 2 games that were exactly the same except that in one the protagonist was gay and in the other he was straight, that I wouldn't prefer the one with the straight guy.
