Paradox Interactive announces release date for Penumbra expansion photo

The Penumbra series is still unknown to a lot of gamers, which is a sad thing: Black Plague, the last title in the series, earned positive feedback from both myself and notoiously hard-to-please Anthony Burch and packed in a lot of thrills and chills. Word of an expansion for the title has been floating around for a few months, and now we have a confirmation date of August 23rd via Paradox Interactive's website.

Here is some more info on the exclusive digital download-only expansion:

Requiem will tie up loose ends from previous installments and as Philip progresses he will encounter various characters from his past. Penumbra: Requiem delves deeper into the world of the Tuurngait infection and personalities from the previous two games, Overture and Black Plague. Long lost friends will return and aid Philip on his quest, but can they really be trusted?

No info on pricing was released, only that the expansion will be available exclusively through Gamers Gate as a download. What I'm wondering about, however, is how much this expansion had to do with the original plans to make this series a trilogy. Could Penumbra: Requiem be the remnants of what the third game should have been?

I'll be keeping an eye out for more on this then - I quite enjoyed the first two games. The atmosphere and very tangible sense of your own vulnerability was quite a refreshing change of pace to most games of the genre. The story wasn't bad either, I remember being quite gutted when I got to the furnace in the first part.

yes, Yes, YES!

Finish it!

Actually, their initial plan was to make a trilogy and while they were forced to end the story on the second one, I was quite pleased on how they finished it.

Let's see how they'll connect this one.

I swear to fucking god that if they put Clarance, or anyone/thing like him in this game I will uninstall it and take it back to the store.

The game was so creepy and atmospheric until you got what sounded like a 1950's New York cabbie wisecracking in your ear. I plowed through regardless, but I'll not do it a second time.

I thought that maybe he would turn darker, turn into an evil presence or something like that, something actually creepy and scary. Instead he was just a douche. "Oh, I thought you knew I was bullshitting you, my bad." What the fuck.

I loved the game itself, but Clarance made it seem like there was a guy next to me trying to make snide comments whenever he could, not that there was an evil being inside of my mind doing as he pleased.

RRAAGGEE.

Also, my post isn't spoilers, before someone cries it. It's not a plot twist, it's the basis for the story.
