Microsoft partnering with Last.fm to bring streaming radio services to Xbox 360 was an exciting E3 announcement, even though it wasn't really game-related. Well, for me at least. Why? Because I like music about as much as I like games.
But I'll admit, I've slept on the Last.fm for the past seven years. While friends have spent years providing the service with information about its listening habits (Last.fm will then generate streaming radio playlists based on this), I just recently caught on. Me, I've preferred the excellent online radio service Pandora; can we get some of that on Xbox LIVE? Joystiq caught up with Pandora's Senior Vice President of Business Development to ask.
"We'd love to include game consoles like the Xbox 360 as part of this story at Pandora," she said, going on to say that it's technically possible.
It should be noted that Pandora is only available in the United States; Last.fm is available globally. That may explain Microsoft's decision to partner with Last.fm, and may be the reason we'll never seen Pandora on the Xbox 360.
While I care, you might not. So... do you?
Just recently discovered the joys of last.fm on my new HTC phone though and I love it, same as you, I'm as big a music - and films - fan as I am games.
Besides, Pandora is not available outside of the US
If anything, they should get it up and running on the PSP and beat whatever that similar (and almost inevitably worse) service Sony has in the works to the punch.
Might as well add on Pandora, Hulu, and some other features. Who knows? Maybe soon we'll be able to Digg games?
Good thing is now I bring my PSP to work, lol
I started out on Pandora but Last.fm has so much more options
The fact that it plays music based on bands you have scrobbled / IE listen to
Not to mention you can communicate with fellow fans about upcoming shows and basically set up and itinerary of bands you are going to see
Thats just a few of the great things it has over Pandora
Not that Pandora is bad or anything in fact I always tell people to go there first for online streaming because Last.FM might take awhile to understand.
These are just thoughts from an aspiring musician
btw...pandora one, is amazing
