Pandora would like Pandora on Xbox 360, so would we photo

Microsoft partnering with Last.fm to bring streaming radio services to Xbox 360 was an exciting E3 announcement, even though it wasn't really game-related. Well, for me at least. Why? Because I like music about as much as I like games.

But I'll admit, I've slept on the Last.fm for the past seven years. While friends have spent years providing the service with information about its listening habits (Last.fm will then generate streaming radio playlists based on this), I just recently caught on. Me, I've preferred the excellent online radio service Pandora; can we get some of that on Xbox LIVE? Joystiq caught up with Pandora's Senior Vice President of Business Development to ask.

"We'd love to include game consoles like the Xbox 360 as part of this story at Pandora," she said, going on to say that it's technically possible.

It should be noted that Pandora is only available in the United States; Last.fm is available globally. That may explain Microsoft's decision to partner with Last.fm, and may be the reason we'll never seen Pandora on the Xbox 360.

While I care, you might not. So... do you?

Last Fm is already superior to Pandora anyways. I think MS made the right choice.

Nope but then I'm not American :P
Just recently discovered the joys of last.fm on my new HTC phone though and I love it, same as you, I'm as big a music - and films - fan as I am games.

I used Pandora for about a week before it became US only, since then I've used last.fm. I'd be surprised if Pandora came to live, but I wouldn't be surprised at all if it appeared on the PSN, as Sony and Microsoft seem to have a thing for tit-for-tat announcements recently.

Since I'm a longtime last.fm user I'm quite happy they choose to partner with last.fm
Besides, Pandora is not available outside of the US

I don't care since they blocked Pandora from steaming to the UK.

I like pandora. Last FM didn't do it for me, but I will give that my taste is not exactly common. Their ambient and electronica stations were not that good.

I used Pandora for awhile, but then discovered slacker.com. I am more than willing to put up with a 15 second Ace Hardware commercial to be able to control what bands get played. It has the option of music discovery like Pandora, but you can turn that crap off and basically build a radio station of the bands you actually want to hear.

I listen to Pandora nearly every day. My Pearl Jam station is kick-ass.

Pandora's pretty awesome, but I think going out of the way to put it on a console would be pretty redundant. It could be kinda cool if you could use it as the system's in-game music, but then you'd be fumbling around switching to and from the game to mark songs you like and don't like.

If anything, they should get it up and running on the PSP and beat whatever that similar (and almost inevitably worse) service Sony has in the works to the punch.

Last.fm has more social features and streams stuff that Pandora doesn't come remotely close to having in its library. And it's global, although somewhat priggish in offering features to USA users for free whilst charging other others for the same service. I've always seen Pandora as sort of the lite version, for people who find scrobbling to be a hurdle.

I think last.fm was a great choice. I squee'd a little bit when i saw the announcement. with that said i can't see any reason why they cant add pandora too and get even more people interested in the service. pandora is cool and, at least on microsoft's end, there is no downside to having both networks available in, let's say, a NXE channel called music streaming? unless last.fm has some kind of paid exclusivity dealie, that is.

I would love to see Pandora on the 360, but since MS partnered with Last.fm, I doubt it's going to happen anytime soon (Or at all).

I use Pandora over Last.FM, but that's because the way Pandora is setup appeals to me more. Microsoft could make it so they add more services onto Xbox Live, and let users decide what they want to sign up for. It's not like Xbox Live users MUST sign up for Facebook, Twitter, or Last.FM anymore than NetFlix.

Might as well add on Pandora, Hulu, and some other features. Who knows? Maybe soon we'll be able to Digg games?

I have already stated that I'm excited about Last.fm on XBL. I would also be into Pandora, if it were done.

I would love to have Pandora. I'm not sure which is better though, because I only use Pandora. Perhaps last.fm is better; either way it's cool to have radio streaming while I play.

I really liked Last.fm, but stopped to use it when they began to charge in South America.

Good thing is now I bring my PSP to work, lol

I doubt Last.FM would like it if Pandora was added to the mix. I'm sure when they signed with Xbox they also had some non-compete clause so that a similar service (such as Pandora) couldn't be added.

I'm a Last.fm fanboy myself

I started out on Pandora but Last.fm has so much more options

The fact that it plays music based on bands you have scrobbled / IE listen to

Not to mention you can communicate with fellow fans about upcoming shows and basically set up and itinerary of bands you are going to see

Thats just a few of the great things it has over Pandora

Not that Pandora is bad or anything in fact I always tell people to go there first for online streaming because Last.FM might take awhile to understand.

These are just thoughts from an aspiring musician

I prefer Pandora to last.fm and would love to see it on Xbox. It would become one of my most used features actually.

Ok, here's my thing; you buy a tv that's "Internet ready" but, it sucks soupy buy a blue ray player to connect to the Internet but can't get to all that you want. So, you buy a roku box and an Xbox 360 and you can get some stuff on both but not the same stuff and still not all the stuff. But then, on your iPhone or whatever your choice of smart phone, you can get all of it plus, make phone calls. Why not just put a damn phone inside of your xbox or your tv? Am I the only one that has thought of this?
