Palm Pre's hidden dev mode unlocked via Konami code? photo

Phone freaks surely know about the Palm Pre, the first device to truly give Apple's iPhone a run for its money. And if AT&T's network and service keeps sucking, you may see many more of these sexy mobile phones, available on Sprint's service, around town.

The Pre has a hidden Dev Mode, which allows it to be connected to another computer running the Palm Mojo SDK to create new applications. Nerdy stuff. But what's even more nerdy/cool is how this mode is unlocked. Run this hidden app by typing “upupdowndownleftrightleftrightbastart.” Doesn't that code look familiar? You won't get 30 extra lives, but you could f*ck up your phone if you don't know what you're doing.

I wonder if there are any Contra fans in the Palm offices.

Your experiences don't speak for the public at large.

Sprint Nextel has been rated 4th worst customer service this year with AT&T not in the top 10. (just came out today, actually)

Cell phone coverage is all subjective anyway. I mean, what exactly is the difference between saying you have the "largest wireless network" and saying you have the "most coverage in more areas?"

They all use the same damn towers anyway. I've found that the phone is usually the culprit when bad reception happens. Or in the case of the iPhone, a lot of the protective cases actually diminish reception significantly.

@DinnerTimeNinja Really dude? Is that what you took form this post?

*Ahem* I think that's totally awesome. We're getting to the point where everyone in the professional workforce is going to have grown up with video games, and it's going to make it's mark in every facet of our lives. This is just one super-sweet example.

That's badass... I love Contra enough to beat the game without the code. =)

Saw this on Gizmodo a little while ago and its pretty cool if you ask me. Also beware of the Pre, I've read the edge on the bottom of the phone is sharp, so sharp that it will literally cut cheese, there is a video online of it but I'm to lazy to look for it and link it here.

Get this to Verizon ASAP *without* the normal Verizon-disabled-functionality bullshit and I'll be all over it like Apple fanboys to Steve Jobs' sweat.

@john B

Its coming to Verizon sometime next year I believe and AT&T as well and probably T-Mobile at some point too. From what I've read I believe its a timed exclusive for Sprint.

Sprint is awful. Just switched off them from Verizon. Could not even make a call from my parent's house.
