I do so miss the fast paced arcade deathmatch arena style gameplay that has vanished over the last 8years or so. Serious Sam kind of filled that for SP but not multiplayer. It has been nearly 13 years now since the release of Quake 3 Arena, and to do this day no game has ever come close to matching the quality of gameplay in that style. Unreal 2004 is maybe the only contender in that match and once again that is 8-9 years old now.
The original Team Fortress 2 was good for that itch but even it wasn't the same due to being a class based system with no real ability to play 1v1 (before they ruined the competitive aspect of team games by introducing so many weapons that there is over 2500 possible loadouts for the Soldier which makes it incredibly difficult/nearly impossible to play the game in any sort of coordinated matter. It'd be like playing chess but you only get to see the opponent's pieces when they take one of yours.)
Wow, yeah, go cry some more.
