Paid level downloads coming to LittleBigPlanet PSP photo

It looks like LittleBigPlanet could be making mad bank for Sony when it launches on the PSP, if the promise of "Purchased Levels" turns out to be what it sounds like. The menu item was shown off at a recent Sony event, along with "Story Levels" and "Downloaded Levels."

The PS3 version of the game has experimented with this before, having sold a Metal Gear Solid pack that contained five levels and new mini games, along with the popular paint gun. However, that was an exception, with user-created content providing the rest of the gameplay. It looks like LBP PSP will provide a greater focus on premium levels with such a prominent menu section.

We'll have to see how it goes. I love the sheer amount of free gameplay that LittleBigPlanet currently offers, but I find the platforming so frustrating at times that I couldn't see myself paying for levels. How about you? Would extra portable content for LBP be worth your cash?

I wouldn't mind completely if the levels were good. Of course I'm presuming that LBP-PSP would have the same level of support for user-generated content. I mean, the majority of user-created LBP levels are crap. There are real, amazing gems in there, but sometimes I'd like to play some levels designed by Media Molecule rather than roll the dice, so to speak.

Given the simplicity of most levels, I'd say they'd have to offer up quite a few more per download to justify the price than just five like the MGS pack did for a $6 price point.

Wow, not only is Sony getting rid of the UMD drive they want us to pay for downloaded levels for this. I guess it makes sense, just not in my world. PSP is going to become abandonware for used markets and thats prolly what sony wants but until the psp go gets hacked and can provide fun it is gonna fail. Oh wait, only some will do that unless everyone hack's it a total loss. At least the crappy virtual boy made it so you needed the system to play hence it is now becoming a collectible piece of crap. PSP go I think will fair less when it bombs.

@JohnnyReb,

What's the big deal with this? I don't think you understand. They're not making you pay for user-created content, they want you to pay for premium levels, which I think is a stupid announcement to make because OF COURSE they want us to pay for premium levels!

Now if they'd only fucking GIVE US MORE PREMIUM LEVELS TO PAY FOR on the PS3.

I suppose if the only way I'm going to see more Media-Molecule/Outside-Studio team-ups is to get the PSP version then that's what I'm going to have to do.

The MGS LBP levels are PHENOMENAL and are still the only pay DLC for LBP that I would consider a necessary purchase.

Now let's get to work on those Final Fantasy, Ico/SotC, and Ratchet and Clank levels that have been teased in the past.

As long as they're something similar to the MGS pack (extra MediaMolocule designed levels, new additions to the game, etc) I wouldn't have any problem shelling out the cash. If its just user levels, extra costumes, or other unneeded stuff... forget it. Too bad they didn't give us a create-a-costume sort of thing like they did with the level builder.

I do wish the PSP had trophies though. That was part of the fun of doing everything on the PS3.

If those are levels made by the LBP team, I would be interested in buying them. User generated levels are different though.

Given just how much content the community puts out, no, I have no interest in paying for levels when there are thousands available for free. Will this be the case with the PSP version though? Who knows?

Call me stupid but is this anything else than, let's say COD: W@W and Killzone 2 maps? I fail to see what the difference is between that and new levels for LBP. Paying for DLC isn't anything new and the MGS levelpack was 20 times more awesome than before mentioned maps in other games.

Even with the great user created levels out there, I wouldn't mind a pack or 2 from MM every now and then. The MGS pack was awesome. And I was really hoping that the recent Ghostbusters pack would bring a proton pack type gun to LBP. I think MM missed the boat somewhat on DLC, maybe they don't think its worth it, but every now and then I'd like a new say 4 level pack from them.
