Also, second requisite "I know exactly what an analyst does, and could do it better than these guys. I just don't want to because of reasons" comment today.
To be fair, all systems have that sort of rabid, devour all branded mechendise, fanboy. Nintendo just seems to have more.
I haven't bought a Mario game since SM Galaxy
Frankly, I buy Nintendo moreso than any other because shock horror...
THEY SEEM TO GIVE A CRAP ABOUT THEIR FANS AND TREAT THEM LIKE HUMAN BEINGS. Nintendo is frankly the only force that's stopping the other companies taking away all of our sexy rights. They are the old guard that's just about making great games and less about screwing us over.
Also.
They happen to make the best games, and have the most interesting history that elevates them over other companies.
Anybody who doesn't support Nintendo's ideals is just asking for gaming to die quite frankly. They're the only ones who really make family games anymore, without them back in the day how many of us would be hardcore gamers now?
3. Xbox "Halo 0wNz, the PS2 is weak lol"
2. PS3 "It's WORTH $500!"
1. Wii "It DOES have games! [posts chart filled with sports and music titles]"
Seriously, though, while it can be compared to Apple for the sheer number of fans who are brand loyalists, a significant number of Nintendo fans are Mario/Pokemon/Etc fans who know that anything Nintendo produces WILL have several versions of those titles eventually. You can blame those fans for buying a new Nintendo console on that logic alone.
I'm not one of those fans, but I can understand it. The Last Guardian was one of the reasons I bought a PS3.
I mean if you met these people in real life shouting the stuff they type, you would be laughing your ASS off.
Officer Geoff Keighley was already there. He was a shady shamus, always playing both sides for more screen time. Pachter wouldn't trust him with his wife's panty drawer, but he respected the guy's methods.
"What's the score, Keighley?" He asked, lighting up an exotic Cuban export.
"Fraud, followed by Homicide," Keighley said, "But I guess a fancy Analyst like you already figured that one out. GTPD's got this in this in the bag. Sexy dead gal bought some cardboard thinking it was Super Mario Office Hockey. It's open and shut case, man. We don't need as has-been like you!"
Pachter ignored him, and crouched down to get a good look at the scene. It looked like an exchange gone bad. The dame had a .38 in one hand, and two slugs to the chest. The little guy, once a sweaty pervert by the name of Melvin Sproggler, was face down in his own blood and urine. The guy certainly went when the time came for him.
But something was wrong abouy this whole scene. Pachter looked up, instinctively checking the window. It was open, forced open, and whoever ran left a trail thinner than his cigar smoke.
"This was a set-up, Keighley!"
"Yeah, says who?"
"Says me," he replied. "I don't believe this was a bad deal. Some goon came through the window, made it that way and ran off with the goods."
"And what makes you say that?" Keighley said, playing along with Pachter's tune.
"Because dead dames don't buy cardboard. Especially if they're from Nintendo."
To Be Continued...whenever.
The reason Nintendo has been successful recently isn't just because of their name, because that wouldn't explain their position the last couple of generations. The reason they've been successful is because of the so called "blue ocean Strategy" they target specific audiences such as the casual gamer, children, retro gamers, and people who like weird stuff. It's not too difficult to understand why they're successful they specialize in games that their competition only lightly focuses on.
I didn't find skyward sword to be a BAD game, but the motion controls felt more of a hindrance than a help. And some of the childish handholding design choices were just plain annoying.
It's definitely not the "In my honest opinion, the most well crafted game ever place on this earth." as was told to me.
1) Hes never right when it comes to nintendo, so I can understand the constant attack mode some people take
2) He says hes never right when it comes to nintendo, so it makes it seem like he says the things he says to troll
3) He doesnt know who yoshi is.
YOSHI, the amazing green dino, egg hurler, he is so cool, the fact pachter has no idea who that is makes me question is cool factor
It was a joke at the fact that Nintendo indeed thinks its fans will buy any old nonsense. I never said the fans *would*. It wasn't to agree with the sentiment as much to say that Nintendo's just as guilty of expressing it.
Really aren't digging that deep into the fury hole, are we?
And Pachter is right, because Nintendo does echo the sentiment pretty much.. Always.. They've built their entire "why should we ever change and keep relevant" business model on this sentiment for almost 2 decades now.
These people just hate being called out and being made to feel foolish about it, instead of saying "well, at least I have a hobby"
What? They're releasing a better version of the handheld I just bought? So soon? Great!
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to jerk-off to my non-existent Virtual Boy box, because obviously every single Nintendo fanboy has one.
It would be if anyone actually had bought it.
It flopped hard, remember? Guess that contradicts what Patcher is saying.
Pachter was obviously talking about the "hardcore" nintendo "fanboys". Fanboys are on every platform, the episode just happened to be about Wii U. Fanboys behave the same on every platform. Pachter isn't rooting for one console or another, but he is free to poke fun at all the naive loyalists out there as an analyst, especially as part of his predictions about the Wii U audience. And just to be clear, its OK to be a FAN, but not a FANBOY, the terms carry different meanings these days. A fan is open to criticize or point out the flaws of the subject he mostly loves/loved from time to time. A fanboy is always in denial.
In truth, Nintendo does have more, possibly rabid fanboys than many other competitors because
A) it has a bigger and higher quality history to often back up its "we doing everythang right" mentality and therefore its fanboys' claims
B) it was directly involved in every console war since the term "console war" started, birthing fanboys every generation as new kids are born and start using the internet.
Some of the most critical people I know regarding Nintendo never step outside of the two franchises they accuse Nintendo of flogging to death - Mario and Zelda.. Its and easy argument to make when you never broaden your own horizons.
I think Earthbound is outdated shit, I cant stand Super Princess Peach and can't believe Mario Party already has a ninth installment even with five year gap since MP8.
I love Nintendo, but I'm not made of money and its not all suited to my tastes. I spit at the mention of Metroid Other M as it is, mostly because I'm trying to forget it and I can't.
"It was a joke at the fact that Nintendo indeed thinks its fans will buy any old nonsense."
...but they didn't think it was nonsense.
It's not like they said: "Let's make a Rattler Simulator; it's crap, but our fans will buy it anyways, Nyuk, Nyuk."
The people behind the "game" were trying to make a GOOD music game for the system and were genuinely baffled when it bombed.
I don't think they go out of their way to screw their fans the way, say, Activision Blizzard does.
Seriously, the next Pachter related article should just be labelled "Pachter says things about vidya gaemz" and it wouldn't make a difference.
Well, no shit Sherlock, that's why they're "fanboys". Sony? Microsoft? Square? Apple? (place-your-name-here)?
They all have "fanboys (fangirls? Maybe just fanfolk)" who do this.
Any more amazing insights into the minds of the obsessed?
unfortunately for me im in the nintendo fanboy club. :(
This is why Jim needs to write more Pachter articles. What happened to the header images?
