Pachter thinks GTA V could hit in 2010 or 2011 photo

Gaming analyst and mutant superhero Michael Pachter knows that Grand Theft Auto 5 is in development. And he’s predicting that the inevitable follow-up to the venerable franchise will hit at some point in 2010 or possibly 2011. Neat.

“Management declined to state when the game will launch, but has confirmed to us that the game is in development, has been for over a year, and is using the same game ‘engines’ as the last version,” Pachter said.

"Management also told us that the team at Rockstar North is highly motivated to get the game out, and that the team understands that its highest payday will come from working on GTA instead of any other game,” he continued. "When we do the simple math, we conclude that the next installment is likely to be completed by some time in 2010, although given the frequency of game delays, it is not clear that it will necessarily come before October 31, 2010. However, it is clear to us that the next version of GTA will arrive before the end of [Fiscal Year 2011].

This isn’t exactly shocking, but it’s nice to hear a mild confirmation. We’re fans of GTA downloadable content -- especially if "Lost and Damned" is any indication of future quality -- but a fresh and beautiful new retail GTA release is sounding pretty sexy right now. Bring it on Rockstar North. We’re ready.

I liked GTAIV. It was the perfect balance of movies and games. Not that making totally movie like games is a good thing, but it found its own little hole of gamovie to be in. It did what it tried well, at least.

I hope its set in London. God, I hope...

Should it really be called GTA V if it's using the same engine as GTA4? I mean, think about it, Vice city was called vice city and not 4 because it was using the same engine as 3. Same goes for san andreas.

I like that dude, but he's just like me only 50% of the time right.

I predict a GTAIV-based standalone title which will certainly not be called "GTAV", just like they did with GTAIII -> Vice City -> San Andreas etc.

Pachter also thought GTA V would be revealed at E3 this year. He pulls shit out of his ass.

I hope they do the same thing they did last generation with vice city and san andreas...make progressively better games with more features and better stories...to me GTA4 seemed like a total step backwards from san andreas in every aspect other than graphics

They're probably calling it GTAIV to make it sound newer. People are pretty stupid.

Yeah right.
Doesn't GTA IV have more 2 DLC's to come?
The Balad of Gay Tony and another one, right?
It's comercially dumb to launch a new GTA in 2010 or 2011. After the success of GTA IV Rockstar will probably spend quite some time building a new game that matches it's predecessor(or at least tries to).

I think it should be called GTA 5 rather than V. Dunno, it's not a big deal, but I think it just has a better ring to it.

This sounds ludicrous for 2010, maybe 2012, but I still highly doubt it there. That would mean they're working on GTA V, The Ballad of Gay Tony and The Agent right now for PS3. I don't think Not even Rockstar North could do all that unless GTA V was farmed out to another Rockstar development studio.

I'm with D Sane about the story. They hire podunk university stoners to write their stories. "Hey, I saw this shit on HBO."

Also with Doos about the motorcycle physics. Yuck.

They'll probably strip the weapons down to two or three, too. And maybe this time the cops will be able to teleport.

It won't be the fifth installment of GTA, it will be something like Miami Vice or San Andreas, based on the GTA IV engine (like others have noted before me).

And, @ChaosTeaCup, sexualchocolate is just butt-hurt because GTA jumped ship from being a PS3 exclusive to having a bigger resolution and running at steadier framerate on the 360 ;)

It won't be GTA IV, but I can see a new console GTA coming out in that timeframe. It'd be another spin-off or whatever you would call London, Vice City & San Andreas.

I hope so, because as far as gta's go 4 is amongst the lower teir in my opinion, let's hope in V that cars don't handle like shopping carts, and that the characters are more interesting than cardboard, and that this guy doesn't have a cellphone,or a cousin.

I just want me,fast cars, a decent story, and the entire population of roadkillville or whatever there gonna name the city.

The GTA 4 engine is fine. The artwork is fantastic. The city had a lot of immersion. Story is another matter, with both good points and bad points.

Making another game with this engine is fine by me. I'd like to see more DLC use this fantastic city that the artists built. If they can just make the story be as good as their previous games, then I'd be happy. It's a great game, decent story but doesn't beat Vice City.

GTA 4 sucked for me cause of all the realism. Whats the point of trying to do stunts if you have to accelerate for atleast 10 seconds before you get fast enough to run someone over.
