I think pachter is "silly". I dont think he'll come out with any new predictions until 2014 as his current ones are still selling quite well

Last time the Xbox came out first and that had a MASSIVE effect on it's lifetime sales.
This time the PS4 will come out first and the game of see saw will continue.
I don't mind, I'm actually quite happy with the current generation. But a new PS4 i'll just have to buy!! a new Xbox i'll consider, i suppose, once it's been out a while and if it gets a good reputation and if it gets any good games.

He wansnt really wrong with his "hd wii thing", the wii u is basically an hd wii... he might of been wrong on when it was going to release, but he did predict an hd wii, which is pretty much exactly what wii u is.

Yup I'd agree with this and I'm not sure how the 360 is showing it's age. The games coming out all still look really great. Sure they don't look $1500 Gaming PC great, but hey that's why the thing costs under $300.
I think 2013 is most likely. The 360 has one more big holiday season(consisting of Halo 4 and...Halo 4), they announce the new box shortly after the Halo 4 launch, and it's out fall 2013. That makes more sense than Microsoft killing all momentum on the 360 just before the holidays next year.
I predict we'll never hear another Pachter prediction without Jim calling it dumb and offering is own alternative.

If a new Xbox is announced for this year I'm def getting it. If it's not coming out in 2012 I may get the new Wii. It's all up to Microsoft where my cash will go. Ps4 is a no brainer purchase but I think we will have time before it comes out.

It's probably 50/50 for Microsoft for an announcement... maybe an event sometime late in the year? I wouldn't say the Xbox is showing it's age, games still look good to me, just because one or two games (like Battlefield) look exponentially better doesn't mean anything when many console multiplatform games look good enough for me, and I presume for many gamers. Plus how many developers are really going to want to put in that much investment into what is an already expensive trade in game development. Making a game for the 720? EA has already stated it would be detrimental to their business, and I'm guessing for every other company also.

I think the Technofile in hardcore gamers wants another console in 2012. I don't think it's silly at all, it's actually time for an upgrade. DVD is showing it's age as are the graphics. This view point won't make sense to Pachter but I think MS should be aware of it.
7 years is a great run for the 360. It's time to upgrade and launch Kinect with DUAL ANALOG "move esc" wands which would make it useful for hardcore games.

You do realize that it is the end of November, right? There are 39 days left before it is no longer 2011. Black friday is THIS friday. I want you to think about this, and then tell me how likely it is that Microsoft will release a console that they havn't even announced, in the next 6 weeks.

He's right. MS is taking a page out of Nintendo's book and is milking their system for all it's worth.
Undoubtedly they are working on the next system, but I doubt they are in any rush.
I also don't think they are in a rush cause I doubt Sony or MS think of the Wii U as a serious threat and Sony probably wants to milk the PS3 a couple more years since it took them so long to get where they are now.

I'm actually kind of worried about the next gen. Smaller developers and publishers are already struggling with this generation's costs, and with said costs expected to rise even more, I fear they may not survive the next? I like Call of Duty and Gears of War as much as the next guy, but I certainly don't want a gaming world where a game needs to sell 3 million copies just to break even, and as such without room for niche titles such as Persona, Catherine and Demon's Souls, or perhaps even without room for something in between, like Dragon Age.
I'm excited for all these new generation of consoles! Maybe microsoft will finally start some new ips next gen?
For once, I agree wiht something Pachter said. Not his reasoning behind it, oh no, because that's just retarded. But the time frame. 2014 seems much more viable than 2012. They tend to announce this stuff with a good amount of time in advance, so they can showcase it, sell you on it, and tweak it as necessary. Also gives more than a year to build up a launch library.

I can't believe, that I actually agree with Pachter for once, but I think he's right here. I think its silly to think that Microsoft could be ready for a 2012 launch, when developers don't even their first dev kits yet, and they're only working on PC hardware right now.
Nintendo is a year away and they're only giving out final hardware kits now. They gave their first dev kits out in March, so that's closer to 2 years before launch, rather than one year. I think 2014 might be a bit too far off, but a holiday 2013 launch seems more likely. I think 2014 is more PS4 territory!

This puts the Playstation 4 right around a late 2012 or early 2013 release assuming they hold true to form. Also factor in that the Wii-U will be out by 2012. Now factor in that Microsoft forced the 360 out early knowing the RROD issue existed simply to get their system out before Sony (aka: burnt over a billion dollars in future losses just to have their name out first).
What in the blue hell makes you think Microsoft would let Nintendo have a two year head start and Sony have a full year on them?
