Pachter's massive games industry report continues to be full of fun predictions. In our latest installment of "Pachter says a load of stuff that people inevitably hate him for," the prominent Wedbush Morgan analyst continues to give Sony a good outlook, stating that PlayStation games will account for 31% of the market.
The professional guesser states that the PS2 brand will become far less relevant this year, but that the PS3 will rise in prominence and pick up its slack, leading to a very strong PlayStation brand overall and allowing "software sales for Sony consoles to account for 31% of all game software sold worldwide."
He notes that, as PS2 game sales peter out, PS3 game sales have more than doubled in the past year. Also, while Pachter believes that Sony will fail to "secure significant third party exclusivity," its focus on first party blockbusters will see PS3 titles become the top sellers in future.
Pachter's last point seems to clash with recent stats that suggest PS3 exclusives are not selling as well as they should, but perhaps the long-fabled price drop could have an effect here. We'll have to wait and see. In the meantime, do you agree with Michael on this one, or do you still question why he has a job?

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
He's posting it for lol's, and I 3rd monodi statement.
If I had to guess, I would say Sony is near that mark ALREADY.
Even though Sony has the least NEXT GEN systems on the market, if you add in the number of PSP's out there (and some PS2 sales to boot), it only makes sense that their TOTAL software sales could outpace MS when they only have one system.
150 million Nintendo Consoles out there
70 million Sony (not including PS2)
30 million Microsoft.
70/250 is 28%, bump it up a few percent for PS2 sales and you have your 31%.
WHY DON'T I MAKE MONEY DOING THIS STUFF, TOO!?!?
Oh well.
