Wedbush Morgan's Michael Pachter predicts that Nintendo's Q1 sales were $3.91 billion, just ahead of the second quarter financial results expected July 30th. His predictions are even higher that Nintendo's own. He says that Nintendo's "performance has been spectacular," and believes that the Wii and DS will sell even better in 2009 than they will this year. There's no stopping them!
Pachter also had a bit to say about Nintendo's lack of core game announcements at their E3 press conference this year, according to Gamasutra. He says that while "some hardcore gamers were critical of Nintendo's failure to announce new Mario and Zelda games at the show... we think that Nintendo focused upon building upon its formidable lead with the mass market, and do not consider the lack of major hard core game announcements to be an abandonment of its core."
This echoes the statements made in a recent interview with Nintendo head Satoru Iwata.
I can appreciate that Nintendo wanted to focus on what really makes them money at E3 this year, but they could of at least took five minutes to quickly mention Mario or Zelda. We're not stupid. We know they're working on new games. We just like to hear it sometimes, Nintendo.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Die in a fire, please.
The fuck? They outright said the Mario and Zelda teams are hard at work right now making their newest games. What if the projects are so early they can't show it, or are uncomfortable showing it right now? Quit crying, please.
They could have put a quick trailer together. The whole presentation was focused on the "casual gamer". Is it wrong to want to see more than Wii Music/Wii Sports 2/Animal Crossing?
I think people were expecting a new Starfox, F-Zero, Pilotwings, Kid Icarus, or maybe a new IP. Things are eerily silent on those front. They're reassured us about Mario (duh), Zelda (duh) and Pikmin (much appreciated), but what about the other stuff.
And with that, I think I officially have nothing more to say about Nintendo's E3.
(Or simply put: Waaaah!)
Better games? Last I checked Mario is the only pure platformer left in the third dimension, though Banjo Kazooie should change that.
You guys are asking for stuff like: "Why wasn't there a trailer about the new Metal Gear? We know it's in the work, SHOW IT!!!" come on guys... do you even know how development cycles work?
you know what they could have done? introduced a new channel for the wii. Showcase something new instead of Animal Crossing 3 and Wii Sports 2 (which isn't shipping this year).
Pachter can say that Nintendo didn't abandon its core, but its the other way around. The core aren't going to abandon their investments. I might, but I doubt alot of people are ready to go out and sell their wiis. They might say they will but they most likely wont.

Speaking of being stuck in the past: I sat through that whole music video just for the Breakfast Club clips.
