According to industry analyst and donkey midwife Michael Pachter, Sony's PlayStation Move has sold well below expectations. He reports that the black waggle stick has sold a mere 400,000 units since launch. Compare that to Kinect selling over a million within ten days, and a winner seems clear.
"Move sold well below expectations in its first month" says the midnight lover. "... Interestingly, the higher priced Kinect controller appears to have overtaken the Move controller in the sales race."
I hope Sony isn't surprised. Given the fact that the Move looks like a glow-in-the-dark Wiimote knock-off to your average consumer, and considering Sony's lackluster marketing campaign and dearth of games worth playing for the bloody thing, it shouldn't shock anybody to see that Move has really only sold to those who owned a PS3 in the first place.
Move is a great piece of tech, but I see it going the way of the PSPgo. Overpriced, undersupported, and eventually thrown on the scrap heap. I hope I'm wrong, but it doesn't look good.

Yeah. I remember that too. Maybe it was worldwide and this is only US?
Destructoid just reported Move sold 1.5 mil in Europe alone. What gives? lol

or Patcher is just an ass.
stupid ripoff control fails. It's a stupid, expensive wii ripoff, and the only decent games for it are the already beaten games that got a "move update." of course kinect wins
32x has DOOM, Move has MAG.
Ergo, 32x > Move
If you did the same numbers for MOVE being worldwide and only used US NPD numbers for Kinect next month, it would probably look even worst for Kinect. I'm sure MOVE didn't sell great in its first month, but its still not fair to say that its not selling as well as Kinects over a million units worldwide either!
That was the reason for me getting the 32X
I never thought of it that way... your logic is infallible, I declare you the winner!
Long story short, MS stood behind there product...to the tune of half a billion dollars. Sony squeaked out Move like it was an experiment, not to dissimilar from the PSPGo. It's all but over for Move, but Kinects legs at retail after the holiday season remain to be seen.
Kinect on the other hand is worthless imo especially how and where I play my games.
2 months later and the move has poor sales and kinect is flying off the shelves. Sure, it has its problems and a not-so-great launch line up but I think the lesson I clear.
Never trap your genitals in a combine harvester.
Oh, and don't judge shit before you try it.
Mostly never trap your genitals in a combine harvester.
But the problem with Move is that it's too much like the Wii. Not ripping on it, just saying it how it is. People see it and they think "Wii". What is the reason someone would buy this if they already have a Wii? That's the question Sony needs to answer.

That this is exactly the reason why they weren't matching Microsoft's advertising campaign for the Kinect?
http://www.destructoid.com/sony-would-never-outspend-microsoft-s-kinect-marketing-183584.phtml
And now they're complaining that the Move's sales are "below expectations"? What, do they have short-term memory loss? Besides, didn't they say they sold over 1 million in North America alone?
http://www.destructoid.com/ps-move-sells-over-a-million-in-north-america-186308.phtml
Its easy to see which is going to appeal to a more broad market take your average 50-60 year old and put them infront of the Move and Kinect and see which one they are still playing after 30 minutes.
Realistically, after 30 minutes, probably neither. :)
I can't imagine there will be any deeper/complex kinect titles to come out in short or long run that won't seriously be lacking in gameplay.
The tech just isn't there to do a real game , I heard talk about a gears of war title for kinect and I can't help but laugh. You can't transfer those controls to body actions without loosing some or making it nearly impossible to play.
It's a showy and fun gimmick with no future beyond ( boxing, pets, dancing, and party games ) I'd love to be wrong here but for me there's no point because aside from novelty I play real games with real controllers.
I felt like this was necessary again.
The problem is, as pointed out. Move is still outselling Kinect. Kinect is selling faster, and will eventually over take Move, I have no doubt about that. This article is just flat out flame bait for trolls.
Destructoid posted an article saying move sold over 1 million in North America.
http://www.destructoid.com/ps-move-sells-over-a-million-in-north-america-186308.phtml
They also had an article claiming move sold over 1.5 mil in Europe.
http://www.destructoid.com/playstation-move-about-1-5-million-units-sold-in-europe-186168.phtml
No one has mentioned Japanese numbers as far as I know, all I want as a reader is some consistency between Destructoid's articles.
What can you do with the move (if hacked) that you couldn't already do with a wii mote?
Gee, now I can do PowerPoint in 1:1 movement farglebargle.
Just look at what people are doing once the kinect tech is open up. Sure it's rough right now but with time comes refinement.
And I'm pleased you play real games with real controllers, I'm over here playing all kinds of games with all kinds of controllers.
It's perfectly fair. Hell, even if you accept the 1.5 million worldwide for Move, it's a pathetic loss on Sony's part. They've had sixty-one days to move those units. Microsoft has had ten days and looks to surpass Move before it hits twenty.
@Nyktharas
Check the articles. The 1.5 Million in Europe was reported by the head of Sony's division there. The 1 Million in America was reported by the head of Sony's division for North America. It's not a surprise to learn that the numbers these men have been quoting to us are gathered directly from their cornholes.
hahaha, fair enough.
