Pachter is at it again: PS3 price drop by Thanksgiving, $399 for 80GB next year photo

Industry analysts have recently been buzzing about a PS3 price drop, but our favorite one, Wedbush Morgan's Michael Pachter, comes right out and says it in his predictions for North American sales: he expects to see a PS3 price cut before Thanksgiving.

"Although it is likely that retailers will soon run out of the discontinued 60Gb PS3, we expect a price cut for the new 80Gb model (without a game bundle) to $499 some time before Thanksgiving," Pachter predicted.

Pachter is also still sticking with his other recent prediction, saying that we should see another PS3 price drop in early 2008, but now he adds a price to this prediction.

"We believe that the company is interested in subsidizing sales of the console in order to stabilize its market share in the games market and grow its lead in the high-definition DVD market," said Pachter. "We expect a price cut no later than April, likely to $399 for the 80Gb model."

He also gets back to the potential PS2 holiday season price drop we told you about earlier, and he even lumps the Nintendo DS into the action:

"Although we do not expect another PS3, PSP, or 360 price cut this year (nor one for the Wii), we think a cut for the PS2 or DS is possible," Pachter added. "Any hardware price reduction could serve as a catalyst for sales growth later in the year."

Looks like I'll be getting a PS3 in holiday 2008.

If it did drop to $400, that would bring it dangerously close to the 360, and I'm not sure Microsoft would like that.

I would definately get 1 for 400 clams. I mean, by that time there has to be a decent library, right?

all I have to say is this: If the PS3 drops to 400 bucks, I will buy one. For me, 400 dollars is that magic number

$399 is the price I would bite at. Make it so, Sony.

Then Through this democratic and scientific study analyzing a cross-section of gamers, 400 is the magic number. CONFIRMED.

So if they dropped the price by 100 from where it is now, that would have made the 20gig version cost $200 thus beating the Wii. And in that case id def buy the PS3 but at 500 its too pricy, and im not willing to drop another 400 like i did on my 360 (with no RROD except under conditions that screamed out for the RROD aka play it laying flat on a shag carpet.)

@SgtBilbo,

I found it online and edited it to be Dtoidlicious.

@Necros,

If it did drop to $400, I'm sure MS would also drop their price as well.

He's never right, but by looking at the comments, Sony would be genius to drop the price to 399 before '08. They'd sell like shit-sticks. Wait, how much does a shit-stick cost?

I'm really good at this guessing shit. Someone should hook me up. Hey, Niero, I'll predict stuff for your site. I work cheap!

Anyway, welcome to the land of semi-reasonable pricing, Sony. I hope.

I'd buy one for that price no probs. The thing that would stop me in my tracks now is the games, which 360 just has in spades this season.

Fair enough, if we get a similar price cut in 2008 in u.k/eu, I'll get one, but after I get a Wii.

I doubt it. Pack-ins and bundles lose less money, and Sony is never going to win the price war.

They also haven't shown that much intelligence so far, so why start now?

I still won't buy one. There simply aren't enough games, even on the horizon, that would interest me. It's going to probably be the next Final Fantasy which would spur me to buy a PS3, and only if by then Blu-Ray is winning, and there's anything else out that's cool.

GTA will be out for 360, and according to Rockstar running better on that system than PS3.....

So still no viable reason to suck on Kaz's small asian penile member.
