Back to tabloid news I see, Jim's right he does have to do this in order to keep his job every time he post something about Pachter everyone goes bat shit crazy and has to talk about how much they hate him, and the comments just pile up.
Pachter's not so bad he's made some good predictions he predicted Mass Effect 2 coming to PS3. He pissed me off when he kept pushing for subscription based mulitplayer, but aside from that he's not pure evil like the gaming media makes him out to be.

Ignoring Pachter won't make him go away. We don't pay his wage and he must be doing something right to keep his job.
It's too easy to sit back and flame the guy but I've been here for around a year and I've seen so many u-turns and false predictions about games (from the staff and the community) that I highly doubt and of us could do a better job.

Hmmm, I read the Gameinformer issue and it seems like some context is taken out, too. Basically what I gathered he's saying is.. it doesn't matter if he's wrong once a week as long as he averages out to be correct. Sometimes he's under, sometimes over.. but overall he's right in the middle.
And it's true.. he isn't answering to gamers. Sounds like a lot of people can't grasp that concept. This has nothing to do with them, at all. This is purely for investors. It's not hard to wrap your mind around that, I don't think.
He's an analyst. He isn't paid to make a bunch of fanboys happy.

If no one cares if he's right, why do they listen to him about their investments? Guess it just goes to show that it doesn't matter how stupid you are if you have enough money.

When Pachter makes his predictions they are from a business standpoint, not a gamer standpoint. And if you think about his predictions, they make sense. From a business standpoint that is, even if they are ultimately wrong. So much of investing is speculation and people are nailing him for the predictions he makes and get butthurt over the disappointment when he's wrong. Call of Duty? Charging to play makes sense, even if it would suck for us. None of you (probably) consult with him privately on smaller movings in companies that he doesn't cover on blogs or Pach-Attack. I'm sure if he was wrong more often than he was right he would have been fired long ago. You guys may hate him for being wrong, but he's right. His predictions are not really for us, even if we do listen, knowing we'll be disappointed.
He says what he thinks makes the most business sense for the industry based on his experience and market research. It's his job to tell his clients what industry actions he thinks would generate the most profit. Is it his fault the industry sometimes does monumentally stupid things? Not really.
As someone else said - we all know that most of the time, he is 100% wrong. That's fine. He's good for a laugh.

if I were an investor I would not pay this man to predict anything for me. If his job is to predict the direction of certain elements in the video gaming industry, his track record of making inaccurate predictions nearly every week would suggest he isn't doing it very well.

I think if a guy doesn't care about the gamers itself, even when talking about economics, is the same as an investor don't care about the public of it investiment. Patcher is just a show where a guy ( with a huge salary for nothing ) just talks his own opinions .... anybody can do this on youtube or a blog . @bmart008 - His bosses are OK with whatever he says, as long as he breaks even. If he makes 100 predictions in a week, and 50 are incorrect, and 50 are correct, he's earned his paycheck.

@Retrofraction - You assume too much. His investors KNOW THAT HE ISN'T ALWAYS RIGHT. You're assuming he's somehow keeping them in the dark about what he does.
He isn't lying. Lying is intentionally telling someone false information in an effort to mislead. That's completely different than knowing you could be mostly wrong, which is all he's guilty of. Not to mention he's mostly RIGHT! There's a fucking reason he gets paid so fucking much! He's reliable!

For someone who likes to think of himself as an 'industry analyst', an incorrect prediction every week is still a little hit-and-miss.
