Industry analyst Michael "shiny testes" Pachter is a little bit tired of gamers arguing over his words. While he admits he doesn't seem to go a week without being incorrect, he defends himself in Game Informer by saying that his words are for investors, not us, and that only fanboys care about what he says.
"My job is not to talk to journalists, it's to talk to investors," says Pachter, while talking to journalists. "If I say that a Wii HD is coming, it outrages fanboys who think that Nintendo always knows better, but it doesn't particularly outrage investors.
"There are a handful of readers who make personal attacks, and I would tell them that I have no stake in the outcome of anything I talk about (I don't even invest in the companies I cover), and most of what I say is just opinion. I don't say things because I hope they come true; I say them because I think they will come true.
"I don't think I've gone a week without having an incorrect prediction. Nobody cares if I'm right, except fanboys. My clients are merely looking for a benchmark in front of numbers so that they can assess whether the stocks of the companies I cover will go higher or lower."
Pachter's right, of course. He doesn't speak to gamers. That's why he doesn't have a show on GameTrailers or write a regular column for Industry Gamers. Oh wait ...

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
1. He denigrates gamers.
2. He has no interest or real knowledge about the industry.
3. He makes stuff up for investors

Also, only fanboys argue about the shit he says? Saying that COD should also have a subscription, games/consoles should cost more, this guy basically just tells industry people, "GO AHEAD, CHARGE MORE! THEY FUCKING LOVE IT" which, we REALLY DON'T.
Yep, i'm a fanboy for not wanting to pay more money for videogames because michael pachter says so. Thanks chief, gave me a whole new reason do dislike your ignorant ass.
An easy way to tell what Pachter is going to predict is to just think to yourself, what is the most pro-corporate, pro-profit thing that could happen? That's his prediction. That's really all he does.
People hate him specifically because he doesn't predict what is going to happen. People hate him because he advocates for horrible, pro-corporate positions with little to no evidence.
What a cunt.
Yeah, we really shouldn't have opinions just because we don't make the same amount of money as someone else. You're stupid.
I think he's hoping to distract people by saying the most insane, contradictory things he can think of.
Whats the big deal? Theres a lot of hate from this website on him. Admittedly, I don't really care what he says, but I saw the dude on Screensavers back in the day, and he seemed like an okay guy to me, during their round-table discussions, nothing like the prick you guys makes him out to be. He seemed generally interested in games, and didn't come off like arrogant jerk when he talked. Sounded kind spoken, but like an analyst. I thought he seemed nice, while destructoid and most readers him make him out to be a douche. I must have missed something about him all these years. Maybe he changed. *shrug*
As if words and opinions have EVER mattered with investing.
It's all about the numbers.
He may "not have anything invested" in other companies, but Wedbush Morgan might. Pachter's statements are wrong 80 percent of the time I'd say, but there's a reason probably for that, he's trying to sway the investors into the ideas he has promoted in the past, possibly to benefit those companies (or rival companies).
Pachter doesn't bother me, but the attention the gaming media gives him does.
