Lol "Amurka" what are you, a 12 year old or just a fucking idiot, i imagine its a bit of both. Plus you are clearly a Sony fankid as well and everyone knows that fanboys are not gamers.
@reindall
Free Blu Ray player eh? Wow that's interesting. Because last i checked i paid about 300 bucks when i bought my PS3, which is last a checked a Blu Ray player. So where does the "free" part come in eh? Also why does your post come off like an advertisement? Are you trying to sell it to people?
I want a 360 but paying for Live is the biggest hurdle for me still. Increasing that price only makes my decision not to get one easier.
On topic: If MS does raise the price, I'm getting a PS3.
Maybe they should do it by country, I think everyone with a 360 in my country(chile) has a modded xbox 360, so they should charge more for the service in here.
PD: don't tell my friends I wrote this.
Sure, if you look at it in an absolute way. However, you can also see it relatively. Let's say you buy a console that let's you play games, watch movies, etc. - they have mostly similar features. They cost the same amount of money. However, one of them requires you to pay 50 USD for some stuff, and the second one has an additional feature which isn't present in the first one - Blu-ray.
Relatively speaking, by buying the second console you not only get a free Blu-ray but also 50 USD each year.
Not to burst your optimistic bubble, but as much as I would like that(and believe me I really would, that would actually make me go get that overpriced wi fi adapter) it will be a cold day in hell before live becomes free.
It was the money from live that helped stave off the rrod costs and let them buy exclusives, its literally the 360 lifeline and they will be screwed if they ever lose it, so while patchers predictions are usually in out there in the deep end, he may not be to far off on this one, it all really depends on how much MS thinks they can get away with.
Amurka lol funny word.
Yea, $50 is already a lot since aside from playing games, what real good does it do? From what I'm seeing, people are claiming that it's the $50 price tag that's equaling better community, which just makes no sense whatsoever. Expect to see the PSN community grow and the XBL community to shrink based on recent indications.
$100? That's 1/3 the price of a Ps3, which has no hidden costs. Hell, I'm not certain but I wouldn't doubt it if the 360 headsets and peripherals worked on it as well.
That said, it's an equilibrium price thing. If they can make more money by losing customers and charging those who stay more, they might not be beneath it to do it. Seems Microsoft is privy to ideal economics, but it would be nice to be of the mindset that if you only aim to please the customers, success will follow.
I kinda want a 360 but they're too expensive atm for what they offer.
Come on man, listen to yourself. Bashing your own country while bashing another doesn't make it ok; its just as stupid. People would take you more seriously if you didn't post inflammatory comments with no point.
We don't think Xbox dominates worldwide, anyone who does isn't someone paying attention. Everybody knows the PS3 outsells in Japan and (for the most part) in Europe. We buy Xboxes because we like the games. I still don't know how you can't grasp this.
Anyway, I'm not going to respond to anymore of your bait, because if you honestly listened to yourself you'd see the ridiculousness of it all.
Live should be free, and if it hikes in price I'm not renewing. Nuff said. Even if it did, though, I bet they'd still have those $25-30 discounts on Buy.com, Amazon, etc. that they have usually around once a year.
Thing is i own both consoles. One of those consoles i waited a couple of years for it to go down in price in order to use primarily as a blu ray player( although i do play games on it) while i game far more on the other. I am also with Netflix and spend a lot of my time on the other console streaming tv series and movies. Some of which are in HD for no extra charge. I could probably make the argument that i am getting all those movies free of charge, using your logic.
Its just funny how some of the posts here read like PS3 advertisements.
Yea I know mine did when I read again over it, but in my defense, I just think more people should play Demon's Souls! So it's a little easy for me to slip into convincing-people-to-buy-a-ps3 mode.
I'm pretty sure Netflix is already finished in development for ps3, and is just waiting for the exclusive deal with Microsoft to end. Might be nice, but I know the ps store likes it's revenue from movie sales/rentals, so we'll see I guess.
I'd like it, and I don't pay for it now on my pc, but having on my ps3, I'd probably really get into it.
Oh there is no question that Netflix will be coming to the PS3 when the exclusive deal with MS is up. Netflix has said many time they want to stream on every device eventually. As for Demon Souls i plan on buying it in the very near future, i just hate it when a lot of great games i want to play are coming out for both consoles and i don't have the time/money to get to all of them. Would it kill these companies to spread the releases throughout the year as opposed to lumping them all together in the holiday season? /Off topic rant
Stop giving them these ideas. I'm starting to think you are a 'plant'. Seiously SHUT UP!
I'm pretty impartial as I had both consoles and look at both of them in the same way (well, that is actually a lie, because I don't really like MS for quite a few software and hardware related reasons). I don't really care about Netflix and I don't know if you have to pay additionally for it - most Xbox360 users can't access it. You couldn't make an argument that you are getting them free of charge with the console, you could make an argument that you are getting them free of charge with Xbox Live Gold which costs annually 50 USD.
But look at it this way, Microsoft. If you don't raise the price of my subscription, you'll lose less money when I steal my next XBL code.
I seriously don't see how anyone finds a service run entirely on local connections to be justifiable. I mean, if there were dedicated servers, sure, I could see dropping a few bucks ($10/year max) to keep them running, but $100 a year for local connections that don't cost anything? Yeah, right.
Yea, can you imagine if all those companies who put off their games till next year hadn't? Alpha Protocol, Bioshock 2, etc. I'm in a way lucky that I only have a ps3 and wii to consider atm. What exclusives are coming out for the 360?
Whoa! No dedicated servers?! Seriously? Are you sure about that? That's the only thing I've even considered paying the premium for.
You said that you get a free Blu ray player but PS3 is a Blu Ray player, the games are on blue ray...therefore when you buy a PS3 you are paying for a blu ray player. Using the same logic you did about getting Blu ray free i could say i stream movies free, if i conveniently forgot that i pay for the service. Its the same thing really.
Yeah we pay for the access to Netflix streaming which is available to gold members( although there is no extra live charge for netflix, you have to be a subscriber to use it), but i also have to BUY movies for my Blu ray player/PS3. No matter how we try to spin it, and the end of the day we are paying for something.
I have already bought ODST so far, Left 4 Dead 2 comes out next month( i am addicted to the first cannot wait for the second. COD: MW2 although (its not exclusive i will be getting it on the 36) Magna Carta 2 which came out the same day as Brutal Legend and UC2 i am told. Not sure why they would pic that day to realese it.
Also to address the comment of no dedicated servers that is untrue, certain games do have dedicated ( Frontline Fuel of War and all of EA's titles come to mind.) Its pretty much up to the dev whether or not they want to use dedicated, the problem is that MS doesn't use dedicated servers for their first and second party games. I give PSN its due on that one. Frankly there is no reason for games like Gears and Halo to not have dedicated servers. In Halo its not as bad, Gears is nearly unplayable online though.
Again - relative. My phrasing was a bit off, as I should've said that you get free "ability to use Blu-ray discs". I kind of see your point, but then again - it's not for all. For example I had Live Gold, but I wasn't able to use Netflix.
Additionally, which might shock some people, I couldn't get Xbox Live in a legit way. Officially it is unsupported in my country, so by playing games online on the 360 (even though I had original games and I payed for Live Gold) I was breaking the license and could "expect a ban at any time" (that's a quote from the customer support hotline).
So the bottom line is - the customer experience varies from region to region. You might additionally get free movies from Netflix when counting in the 50 USD, I lose the ability to play online or risk a ban at any time with the 360.
Well i don't know where you're from but assuming you are from Europe, netflix wasn't available over there. You do however get Sky.tv Which i am told is supposedly better than Netflix.
Yes, Europe. Nope, Sky is only for the UK and Ireland - and by looking at my English you could probably guess I'm not from any of those countries.
Don't think I'll be picking up L4D2 on pc. I'm still undecided on it, but yea I forgot about ODST and Magna Carta 2. Those both look pretty good. My friends beat ODST in 4 hours and felt ripped off, yet they're completely satisfied with the game because of Firefight. Must be good.
Also, on the server thing, I always thought Mirosoft had dedicated XBL servers that they used for all XBL games. And I just assumed they had a huge storage of XBL servers since everyone says XBL is better for online gaming than PSN.
Scratching my head on it. So the dedicated servers used for a game on ps3, i.e. Demon's Souls, are as good as I'm gonna get regardless of PSN or XBL?
With the TOY R US Buy 2 Get 1 Free sale on accessories I was able to purchase the XBL Membership cards and points.....
Suffice to say....my 2 XBL accounts will be active for the next 3+ years
The Points were used rather quickly thanks to the continued quality of games coming from XBL Arcade....
Oh, really? I don't play any EA games on 360, so I wouldn't know.
So let me correct myself. There are so few dedicated servers, that $50 is still an outrageous price.
But I do like the unified identity you have on Live. PSN has made strides bug to ME it doesn't feel as unified.
At the same time I would never even consider paying $100. Anything over $50 is ridiculous & and think the bean counters at MS know how far they can take it without it backfiring on me.
I prefer all my multiplat games on the 360 but I'll sacrafice playing them in the ps3 if they increase the price it's odd I think the ps3 is a better piece if hardware in almost everyway but unfortunately I prefer how MS hanldes online and also prefer the 360 controller so it's a little frustrating. Perhaps in 2 or 3 years psn wil reach duntion and feature parity.
Ok, lets see... OTHER THAN gaming online with my 360, what does a gold membership afford me?
Netflix
The ability to free demos.
The ability to spend real money on fake clothes.
... the marketplace?
Really who would think thats a 100 dollar a year service.
Listen up dickheads @ MS, thats two video games a year if you find them on a good sale, or like to buy used (COD MW2 anyone). Thats a new HDD for my ps3/PC. Thats taking a couple friends out and bowling two weekend in a row.
I barely use my gold membership as it is except for Netflix. And, if it goes up in price, I sure as fuck will buy a new cheap computer... and use linux on that one just to prove a point.
