The game has been underwhelming both financially and critically. So I would say it´s already a disapointment
Also, Patcher hatin on Jim's fat man swagger.
What, what, what? This game shipped 10 billions units to retail? I dub thee will sell well or thine name shant be PACHTER!
He says these things for market shareholders who don't know shit one about the gaming companies they put money into-- they just want to see the dollar count go up, or see ahead of the curve to know when they should sell if it's going to go down.
Isn't that obvious?
So I guess it is fair to say that for all the people taking potshots at Michael for making large amounts of money to say fairly obvious stuff is:
LOL U MAD CUZ BAD, BRO?
Pachter is a target because he makes some of his cash from spewing his tripe to gamers on gametrailers, we wouldnt even know about this muppet if it wasn't for his "Pach Attack" nonsense.
He deserves all the hate he gets.
Stop saying things that make sense. Everyone knows it's way easier to jump on the Hater's Club Bandwagon than it is to simply ignore something that has no bearing on you whatsoever. :p
pachter: "bet on duke"
[sales not as good as predicted]
pachter: "don't bet on duke"
WHAT DO THEY PAY THIS GUY FOR?
Not to mention the videogame blog industry and the practice of releasing demos/betas prior to a game's release. If it hadn't been for both of those lifesavers, I might have accidentally bought this pile of bile.
Waaaaaaa! LEAVE [PATCHER] ALONE!
Are you huge Patcher fans or just standing behind WWJD ideals?
"Not to mention the videogame blog industry and the practice of releasing demos/betas prior to a game's release."
Funny story, I was told personally that Kotaku wasn't going to be running their reviews before or on the day of release any more. That reviewing a game a full week later gave a "real world perspective" or something like that.
I don't know whether their reasoning is truthful or not, I'm not going to bother to judge, but I can't help but think that if we waited with baited breath for their reviews most people would say "fuck it" and go buy the game and try it themselves.
I like his segment, and I appreciate his insight on some things, where there is something I can take form it that I didn't already anticipate or know. I find his viewpoints on gaming to be fairly salient, if shallow-- I know for me it makes me more knowledgeable from an economic point of view, so I can explain my gaming habit to my older peers and parents on some level somewhat more complex than "I shoot stuff, I likes it."
I just don't think that the whole Pachter crusade is one worth waging, but I don't run the site. You could argue I only make things worth by even coming in here and expressing an opinion that differs from what would obviously be shared within. I just think there are people more deserving of the derision than Michael who self-acknowledges that he doesn't really understand why he's suddenly become relevant in the gaming community, and that he doesn't really have any sage advice for the hardcore gamer outside of the occasional early bit of inside information.
But, perhaps more truthful than anything else I write-- why am I bothering having a discussion with people who already have their mind made on Pachter and by extension anyone who says anything otherwise? It's not like I'll, or anyone else, will be doing any convincing of people already predisposed to hating on someone for talking. I don't know, that's a good point.
On a different note, dig the icon. Love QotSA, especially in the Rated R / Songs for the Deaf era. You can still label me moronic though, despite my apparent pandering to your music tastes. :p
"He's so good at his job. Can we collectively pitch in to give him a raise?"
... So his job is stating the obvious... hell I can do that you should collectively fork your money over to me. Wake me up when one of his predictions goes against the flow and turns out to be spot on.
Hardly a 'prediction' exactly...
Neither. I was attempting to point out how this article serves no purpose other than to garner page hits. Mission accomplished Mr. Sterling :D
What he said, and why, is accurate.
"I can't help but think that if we waited with baited breath for their reviews most people would say 'fuck it' and go buy the game and try it themselves."
I have no doubt about this at all. Hell, I'm not even sure I could resist, if I was excited for a game...
Thus the 'Mission accomplished' statement at the end of my last post. I was yet again making a joke, this time at my own expense. It's called 'self deprecating humor'; look into it sometime. Also, after several years visiting the site, I have developed a grudging respect for Jim and his antics. Definitely not a hater, just trolling Jim like he loves trolling us.
"Hell, I'm not even sure I could resist, if I was excited for a game..."
Exactly.. I mean, I even almost did it with THIS game and I already knew it was crap from playing the members club demo and read Jim's (and others) reviews..
The pull of a game you were excited for, even after you've experienced/heard its complete shite, is a very very powerful thing.
I'm going to invent a way for people to read my sarcasm without having to write that I'm being sarcastic.
PATCHER IS A FREAKING GEENIIUUUUSSSS!
Charlie Brooker generation 1, Jim Sterling 0.
Checkpoint saves, two weapon limit, Mario Brothers gameplay; yeah...console port. Won't buy it. Ever.
