Pachter chimes in on Netflix for Xbox 360 photo

We've remained hopeful after hearing the early rumors that the Netflix movie streaming service may be coming to consoles. Since then, we haven't heard any new news. But, if you're like me, you're constantly reminded of the rumor whenever you boot up the service on your computer.

I watched Pablo Francisco's comedy DVD on my television the other day, which was streamed from my PC via Netflix. It's not terribly difficult to connect a PC to a television to use this feature, but it would be so much easier to use the already connected internet-enabled consoles we own.

GameDaily spoke with Wedbush Morgan Securities' Michael Pachter after a Netflix analyst event. Pachter is pretty confident that the service will make its way to the Xbox 360.

"It strikes me that the right business model for Microsoft and Netflix is that they both participate for free, and I think the idea is that Netflix has 8 million subs in the U.S. and Microsoft has probably pretty close to that many Xbox Live members in the U.S., and there's probably not 100 percent overlap – my guess is there's a couple million of overlap, but there's 5-6 million Xbox Live subscribers that Netflix would love to have join Netflix service and there's probably 5-6 million Netflix subscribers that Microsoft would love to sell an Xbox 360 to," said Pachter.

Pachter believes that Netflix is one of Microsoft's partners, and thinks that there's something to the repeated mentions of "Internet enabled video game consoles" by Netflix management.

What about you? Are you daydreaming of watching B-movies and documentaries via your Xbox 360? Do you think this will conflict with Live's movie service?

My money is on Microsoft buying a stake of Netflix and combining their current Live video marketplace with Netflix's.

God please no, Microsoft is been doing a terrible job of doing anything even close to running things well. Netflix knows how to keep its customers happy, and keep its customers. Microsoft needs a shift in corporate culture before they can be responsible enough to do something like that.

I'd prefer using it on my PS3. I don't like using my 360 for media at all.

As long as I don't have to play anything on top of my existing XBL and Netflix subscriptions, I'm all for it.

@Mxy

You know you will :P

Also, the less MS has to do with media the better. They are absolute crap. Having to use third party software to stream to my 360 ftl.

This Netflix on 360 rumor has been around for ages but I just don't see why Microsoft would allow it when they have their own Video Marketplace service.

Unless Microsoft buys Netflix.

PABLO! Hey PABLO! Hey man, this is my job, okay? I take is seriously!

LoL, he is fantastic. Speaking of, where is he these days?

I for one hope Netflix doesn't get gobbled up by big blue. Netflix rocks! Why mess with something that isn't broken? But if they have to make more money, I guess they have to. just don't mess up what is already working. I like getting new movies mailed to me every weekend.

Make it so. I hope this happens. Netflix seems to want to go to only streaming movies and this is a great move on their part.

I use NetFlix'x streaming service, and I have to say the selection is dismal. If they had movies I like to watch available, I would LOVE to use my 360 to get 'em. I don't use the current system, 'cause it's pretty pricey.

Mostly I spend my Microsoft Points and memory on stand-up. Both Comedy Central Presents and Specials.

If they simply swap out MS's movie service for Netflix and allowed us to DL their movies (up to maybe 3 a week like NF's 3 DVDs at a time) over Live for an extra fee ($10/mo sounds fair) I'd be down for it.

I would allready be satisfied if they would simply allow us to get onto video market place :-( still not available in Belgium :-(

I'd give Netflix on the 360 a try. Even if there were a lot of crap movies you're bound to find something you like in a pile of 10,000.
