I can totally get behind paying for the part of the game you use as I would only be paying for the single player campaign 99% of the time, but charging people a full $60 for a title and a monthly fee to play online is a big ol' rape. I guess if all the MMORPGs can do it, then why not?

You people comparing this to MMORPGS is not accurate. If COD added in a massive amount of extra content every month, like new weapons, new maps, new perks, new clothing, etc, then it might be acceotable and slightly comparable. An MMO is constantly updated with new areas, new quests, new shops, new monsters, new equipment, new crafts, etc and so the monthly fee is more than justified. Also, MMOs are MUCH MUCH larger than any single player game and would cost hundreds of dollars just for the initial content but they just charge you a small subscription instead. It's more than fair.
I propose to change the tag #Activision with the tag #Satan. In both future and past posts. And #Analysts with #Industry Bullshit.
How about we just not buy the next Call of Duty game, and just keep playing Modern Warfare 2 and the other seven hundred Call of Duty games for free?

The last cod I will play is black ops. after that I am done with cod, and activision for the most part. I will only get guitar hero but only the main series unless power gig proves better. I got a PS3 so I didnt have to pay to play. There is no way I am starting any time soon (unless i get a 360)

With XBOX through our provier and subscription, or through provider with PS3 and Wii and also the other finances we pay towards developers with DLC and Arcade games on all systems. MS just so happen to be the more greedy where additional payment is needed.
MW2 is basically MW with new fancy badges and symbols and truly not a game that involves a great deal of aiming thanks to the insane auto-aim help with makes people with lesser skills become on par with gamers that are very skilled.

they looked at the possibility of a subscription model for MAG... and I think that there was still confusion about this and a lot of people avoided the game when it was released. If even the whisper of "subscription" can damage sales, then I think the actuality will simply mean a supernova dump of interest for the game.
The reason I can't buy software every month is because I'm poor not because I am spending too much time playing online games. $60 per game is too high when there are multiple games coming out at similar times that I want.

The only way I can see a subscription model working for Activision is if they get into the hardware business and release a box of their own.
I wouldn't pay monthly for CoD, but I haven't bought a CoD game since the first Modern Warfare.

This industry is founded on creativity and imagination, all the greatest titles in the history of gaming were made by people who's motivation was to create a great game and that's it. Now gaming is much more popular so guys in the suits came into play. Now it's them who's shaping the industry.
I fear that if Activision succeeds with that kinda stuff, if they'll prove that selling the same game to people every six months and charging for online brings more profit, than making something new, it's possible that other publishers will establish the same policy.
But Activision will fail. Maybe people are dumb enough to buy the same Guitar Hero and Call of Duty game for 3 years, and maybe they'll pay a monthly fee, but eventually they'll just get tired of the same games, that's when Activision will start loosing money. Exactly the same here. I'm a student. If I want games, I can't justify paying the full price for them - I wait until they're on sale at some point, or avoid buying them altogether. I have too many other games to splash out £30 or £40 on impulse buys. I'm a PC gamer, and the only Call of Duty game I've played was the first one, so this in itself doesn't affect me, but the possibilities it indicates for the industry bother me. There are numerous games out at the moment that rely on multiplayer as the main focus of their experience, and I'm just going to have to pass on them if subscription fees appear. I have enough distaste for non-free DLC as it is.

Pachter has become a serious shit stain on the industry. I used to like him, but he's become very annoying lately. And Activision "must"? Yeah, they're totally hurting for money. I don't play Call of Duty and I won't. The quicker its decline, the better.
I'd only be up for this if I was guaranteed a totally lag free, glitch free service. But I doubt thats gonna happen, so no dice.

I like to play COD MW 2, and I play it quite a bit....but if I suddenly had to pay a monthly fee I would stop. Heck, I won't even buy the DLC packs because I feel they are too expensive
Ugh. If they plan on implementing this for the next CoD game, then it works out for me, because I wasn't planning on buying any more, at least until the reviews come in on the next IW entry. But if they plan on somehow patching MW2 to require an additional subscription, then I will stop playing it and never touch the online multiplayer again.
If/when this happens they need to support games like mmos do, if they don't do that I don't see how they could justify this. Every industry has it's fucking ups and downs just because sales were down a month or 2 doesn't mean you have to charge more while not offering anything else in return.

Eventually, the gaming industry will run out of ways to nickel and dime people and publishing giants will crumble under their own weight welcoming the new age of games being developed without the binds of marketing and target audiences.

Maybe their friends talked them into buying the game, maybe an extra fee isn't that much to them because they only play CoD and Halo, maybe they did promise not to buy but gave into temptation because one man never made a difference.
You need only consider the case of Live's Gold membership. What we're seeing now is the industry trying to see how little they can give you in exchange for a fee, and I believe there are enough dumb people with money to make it a worthwhile venture for them.

Why doesn't Activision quit beating around the bush and just hire a couple guys to break into our homes and rob us?
I doubt MS Live would allow this. Forcing ppls to pay for Live to access online services then charging again to play a online COD would have people jump ship. Even though MS and Activision are on good terms they are not that close yet for this to happen.
