Last week, Topher let us know about Space Invaders: Infinity Gene, an update to the classic move-back-and-forth-while-shooting-those-aliens-that-are-also-moving-back-and-forth simulator that includes such radical changes as being able to move up and down. Following in Taito’s stead, Namco has announced that an updated version of one of its own classic IP’s will be hitting the App Store in due time: Pac-Man.
Entitled Pac-Man REMIX, it adds power-ups, traps, and bosses to the standard ghost-eating. Here are some of the new abilities Pac-Man can gain access to:
- Jump – jump over ghosts or walls
- Lucky Item – all the pellets turn into Power Pellets
- Ninja Item – Trick the ghosts with an illusion of PAC-MAN
REMIX will feature thirty levels with a giant boss-ghost -- such as the UFO piloting Pinky pictured above -- showing up after every five.
No specific release date has been mentioned yet, but it is confirmed that REMIX will be sold for $5.99. To get a look at the game in action, head over to Namco’s Web site for a short trailer.
SAN JOSE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--PAC-MAN’s hitting Apple’s App Store but this time he’s equipped with an arsenal of power-up items and sneaky maze traps to aid in his battle against giant ghost-bosses. Namco Networks, a leading publisher and developer of mobile, iPhone and PC games for mass-market casual gamers, today announced the upcoming worldwide availability of PAC-MAN REMIX for $5.99 through Apple’s App Store.
“With tricks and traps, special items and battles against giant ghost-bosses, this isn’t your parents’ PAC-MAN,” said Jonathan Kromrey, general manager for Apple Games for Namco Networks. “Fans of the original are going to enjoy the twist on the arcade action of PAC-MAN REMIX.”
In PAC-MAN REMIX, players can acquire power-ups and traps as they play through six stages (with five levels each) to beat six giant ghost-bosses. Power-up items include:
• Jump – jump over ghosts or walls
• Dash – move faster
• Lucky Item – all the pellets turn into Power Pellets
• Ninja Item – Trick the ghosts with an illusion of PAC-MAN
The stage-specific traps give PAC-MAN an extra boost against the ghosts. For example, the dash panel lets PAC-MAN travel faster and run through ghosts while the warp tunnel lets PAC-MAN (and the ghosts) travel to other points in the maze.
PAC-MAN REMIX has two control types: Arrow Keys, and Flick. Arrow Keys give players an on-screen control pad while Flick mode allows players to control the action by swiping their finger across the screen. There are three difficulty settings and players can choose the number of lives as well as how often continues are available.

...Namco's running out of ideas
No need to thank me for the new title, Namco.
This is cool too though.
