Have I posted this video already? I feel like I have. Louis CK is awesome. That's all, really.
Tonight, Aaron, Jim, Topher and I will discuss Jack Thompson's disbarrment, what future MGS games might be like without Kojima, piracy as the great equalizer, and this month's Musings topic.
As always, give us your questions and Siegelpuns; the best question-asker will be rewarded with some neat swag, and the best Siegelpun-deliverer will have theirs read by Aaron at the top of the show.
Get to goin'.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Also, what do you expect from the next MGS game? Where would you guys like to see the series go from here? What settings and time periods within the MGS universe pique your interest the most? Do you think there is any room for improvement in terms of the core gameplay that was established in MGS4? Would you be interested in playing full-fledged 3D remakes of the original MGS games, in terms of story, setting, and characters?
Podtoid gang, please give us your thoughts on this.
SIEGELPUN: If you hate cutscenes, this fourth game will grind your Metal Gears!
How much wood could a wood chuck chuck if a would chuck could chuck wood?
There simply isn't enough time to play everything coming out. Personally I'm going for a select few at release date (Fallout, Gears 2, Guitar Hero and Left 4 Dead), and will enjoy the rest through out the year when they are cheaper.
Unfortunately this means I'm overlooking games like Dead Space, Fable 2 and Far Cry 2 (all out on the same day!), and my pre-order trigger-finger is starting to get itchy...
Well that sucked. Do you think with Jack Thompson being disbarred any other anti-video game critics will step in to take his place? Or will he continue to work behind the scenes influencing others as a self-proclaimed "martyr"?
I guess in summary I'm asking if you think there's anyone else out there with the chutzpah to be the next Jackie T.
With Metal Gear being discussed again, it reminded me of something I often thought about when MGS4 came out. So many people complained of the length and frequency of the cut scenes, arguing there should have been more "gameplay".
At the time, and since, this got me thinking: Are we sometimes "missing the forest for the trees", so to speak? What I mean is, (and this continues from my insistence on thinking about how we "bound" concepts" in games), Why should we necessarily care how many cut scenes there are, or how long they are in a game like MGS4? We who love MGS do so mostly because of the insane but awesome story and characters, because of Solid Snake, Ocelot, Otacon, etc.
MGS4 was a closing to a story, of characters, and so on. I thought it was amazing, and I really don't care if could have "played" more of it. Is not what counts that you enjoyed your time with the product? That it was fulfilling in some way?
I guess what I'm asking is could not " video games" SOMETIMES (and I DO stress sometimes) be a much looser concept if the end result is as awesome as the MGS series? Do you think devs are restricting themselves in this sense? Are we in turn restricting ourselves in this sense?
I mean, look at what Soulja Boy said.
Sorry Jim, but Reggie "Meat Bag" Fil-Aime does not count.
JOURNALISM MAN
for a bit.
Yours sincerely,
Sam
In other words, if consumers have to make limited picks from this litter of games, does that in turn hurt the sales of all these games, and in turn possibly the development of future games due to loss of sales revenue?
Are bad games necessary?
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09 is a hole in one!
Also, could Jim say "I am the Dream Weaver who weaves dreams" in either his Liquid Snake or Albert "David Bowie" Wesker voice?
Thanks.
Also, can you get luc to come back on the Cblogs
Regarding "gameplay" or lack thereof: Could THE moment in MGS4, you know, the one where you only hit 1 button but it manages to carry the weight of the entire series on it's back, have been possible without all the character development and story-context provided by all of the series' previous cut scenes? Could such a moment have been created purely through "gameplay"?
I think not, which is worth thinking about.
Metal without Kojima? Doubtful. If it does happen, I probably won't touch it.
And yeah, stock market plummet today, eww. I'm not going to be buying *NEW* games for a while =\
Oh, I saw a truck on my way to class today that said 'Linde' on the side, so my Siegelpun is:
"Linde gas trucks, I hope they don't float away from all this hot air!"
Not really punny, but, eh, I've got nothing else today.
If you haven't read about it yet, Blizzard is upgrading their server architecture for Wrath of the Lich King to allow what they call "phasing", which seems to be a way to move players into and out of private "instances" seamlessly. No loading, no transition. What this means is that a player can be moved into an intance without even realizing it. Inside these private instances, scripted events can play out without disrupting the experience of any other players nearby.
I don't know if any cast members are current or former WoW players, but if so, what do you think of this new technology and its potential impact on storytelling in an MMO? For any cast members who don't play WoW, would a move toward heavier story focus (possibly enabled by this new technology) make you consider MMOs as worth your time?
A lot of games are doing the whole RPG as a sub genre thing, Castle Crashers had level ups even Bioshock has RPG elements what genre do think goes best with RPG elements?
Of all the games coming out this year what game do you think will be the biggest disappointment?
Mirrors Edge (a first person platformer) got me thinking if you guys could see any other genre put in the first person perspective what would it be?
Pun:
Fallout 3 is going to be a nuclear blast!
Also Rev why no HAWP last week?
Is this more backward beefburger brainstorming or the well-meaning will of the WiiWare warlords?
How fucking awesome is Mega Man 9? Really awesome or MEGA AWESOME?
Also, What's your perfect Sunday?
And PUNTASTC TIME:
Eternity's Child 2: Revenge of Luc Bernard will cause you an ETERNITY of pain and disgust
Is this more backward beefburger brainstorming or the well-meaning will of the WiiWare warlords?
Also, for a Siegel pun: There's no roundabout way for Jack Thompson to object to his firing this time!
At the same time the financial situation is deteriorating and I dont know anyone who is not afraid.
Questions:
Do you think this will hurt sales of these new titles?
Do you see big publishers start cutting projects due to a lack of credit?
Dont you believe that the gaming industry should stop giving us all this great games all at once and understand that if the game is good you are going to play it even if it comes out on August or May?
You may want to reconsider your plans to move stateside. Our economy appears to be sailing a sieve down Shit River, and its bilge pump is fresh out of petrol. If the US of A were, say, Rome, Nero would be fiddling faster than the DOW is dropping.
The House of Representatives just shot down the 700 billion dollar bailout plan, and there appears to be no resolution of the credit fuck up in sight. I suggest brushing up on a bit of Cantonese, or doing tech support in India, or moving to any country that actually produces a tangible product instead of massive, tax-payer crushing debt.
"Last night, I finally _____ Mega Man 9."
A. conquered
B. beat
C. finished
D. won
I've heard all of these, and only one of them is correct. (Hint: It's not "won." Unless you're a retard.
Also, now that games like Bionic Commando Re-Armed are out, and providing a new look for an old game in a positive way, and games like Mega Man 9 provide new retro content, what games do you think deserve a new look with new graphics but intact gameplay, or a return to a retro look? I myself would like to see Metal Gear 1 and 2 (MSX versions) with 3d graphics but intact gameplay.
anyways, I'll try a pun...
BG&E2:
This long awaited sequel to the cult classic will go above and beyond your expectations!
Any thoughts on the 'new DS' ?
Its a given that fidelity is worth something, however would Metal Gear Solid 4 have been a worse game if it was only as high res as say Ninja Gaiden Black on the original Xbox or Metroid Prime 3 on Wii? I think it would have been just as good.
Am I the only gamer who looks at art and ignores fidelity? Am I the only man who thinks that Bioshock isn't as beautiful as Okami? Am I waiting in vain for people to see the art of games and not the tech specs? Would you kindly answer me this?
My question is do you think this will ascend as far as those did, or do you think the controversy has plateued around what jack thompson has touted as an important issue?
Only cunning linguists will be able to finish Linde Studio's Boner Quest!
How much awesome would Braid PSP be?
