But no seriously, this sounds cool. Just can't help but make fun of how much metrics seem to have effected this games development.
I don't like the open world/dungeon structure for dead space, actually I don't like the open planet at all, this is too much lost planet for me, and lost planet wasn't an interesting game for me.
Still, can't judge until I've played it.
"I only have a couple healing items and am low on ammo... can I survive long enough to find the reward?"
It could be great. But considering they're adding co-op because "single player is too scary" makes me think it won't be as great as I'm picturing.
But im gonna miss the tense sci fi game... the less you seem to be in space the worse it is. Becuse space is the best place to set anything in.
@salamagogo
Still haven't figured out why the space isn't working, huh?
I just wished they would just say so instead of treating us like morons and. At least Capcom doesn't lie about its aspirations for RE.
Yeah, why not? Capcom has shown that you can call a run and gun action game with a co-op partner and zero horror in it 'Resident Evil' and make money, so it stands to reason that EA would turn Dead Space into a run and gun action game with a co-op partner and zero horror in it and expect to make money.
Fuck you too, EA.
you'll be shouting bingo before the meeting even starts.

They just want to shove online passes down people's throats. Honestly, I'm pretty sure the vast majority of people don't play multiplayer games locally, as seems to be the case when people act like I have no friends because I still haven't played Portal 2's coop, but then suddenly when the PSN went down, there were a lot of people complaining about how they couldn't play half of the game. Welcom to my world, I can't believe people put up with this, it makes me wonder how games like SSBM with only local multiplayer were ever successful with gamers nowadays being so online addled.
But as onered already stated, its just a checklist of shit to include to help sell it to a larger market, which kind of waters down what makes the game so special.
Tek is torn.
Ah, who am I kidding, its going to be origins only and even the resurrection of the battlefield franchise couldn't get me to install that gussied up piece of malware on machine. Thanks for that btw, ea, you guys can eat all the dicks.
1) Because it was a party game.
2) Because it was a fighting game.
3) Because Super Smash Brothers was popular in itself.
It's also not like the gaming industry was totally different in 2001. Not like that at all.
I would like to experience the "entire" game "alone"! I have zero interest in COOP when it comes to Dead Space. None. Too lock content behind multiplayer is just more typical EA bullshit. Can they fuck the medium more than they already have? You can count on it.
-Broken down space ship. Check
-Necromorphs. Check
-Tight spooky hallways. Check.
Please, remind me exactly how this doesn't sound just like another Dead Space game?
whelp i can see where the DLC/pass will fit in.
but the idea of risk searching that area and possibly dying, or just move on with the story is pretty cool i guess. but also makes you wonder, can you go back?
Basically what tekbunny said, except to elaborate, by humans, tek means they're human enemies. In previous Dead Space games there were only Necromorph enemies. In Dead Space 3 there will be human ones with guns shooting at you. In other words, through that Dead Space gains something that makes it closer to a generic shooter and less like, well...Dead Space.
At its soul, it's another Dead Space game, but the big issue everyone has is that EA is basically fucking everything up by adding things the game doesn't need that actually makes it less like Dead Space. Not only that, but on top of that, every reason they give for these changes makes them sound stupid as hell. Case in point: EA says they put coop in because people said 'Dead Space Single Player is too scary and it would be less scary if they had coop'. That's total bullshit. EA made that up in a ridiculous attempt to justify a decision that no sane person would make. Just another wonderful series EA is trying to fuck up by making it as generic as possible and taking away everything that made the series fun and unique in the first place.
Now I made myself sad.
R.I.P Dead Space
When the hatedom becomes as convoluted, contradictory, and diverse as the fandom, you at least know you've achieved something.
Anyways, I really can't say if I'm excited or not about the game. The first game wasn't too good for me and I honestly I played the second game on the lower difficulties, so it was kind of an action game anyways for me, but I still loved it.
As for co-op, I honestly think a better idea would be for Visceral to let us choose one of four characters to be at the start (since I'm pretty certain there are 3 survivors plus this new guy from all the previous games), and then if we want to join into another person's game who isn't playing as the same character we could do that instead of the join-ee automatically getting stuck with the new character. I'd have no problem with this demi-MMO setup.
10 to 1 its because Co-op isn't mandatory either. This looks like another tacked on reason (even if it turns out good and fun) to say "hey, co-op was a good idea, wasn't it guys?"
My problem is that you don't naturally explore EVERY possible room and area of a Dead Space game, given how they're pretty linear, with a lot of places and spots that just blend in, so how will we know we're even missing a whole "dungeon" unless they stick out like a sore thumb.
At the same time, what if we don't want to do them right that second? What does that mean exactly for being able to go back to locations we've already been to?
Either way, I like dungeon crawling and love Dead Space, so this sounds fun. Just have some concerns about the execution.
@Joe Ess
Games been in development far longer then Skyrim's been out.. EA's obviously looking to extend a game people can finish in about 6 hours. They must have realized they screwed up with Dead Space 2's PVP junk and went a different route. Except co-op in a game thats 6 hours long would probably make the game 3 hours long, so they needed buffer to extend the experience.
Although that makes me also wonder why they didn't try to nudge Bioware to do this with Mass Effect 3 (unless they did and Bioware didn't do it) "dungeon" areas, even planets, would have been kind of great for that game, given it had a bunch of holes in its plot when it came to other things going on in the Galaxy over its spotty timeline.
