OXM reveals more Rock Band DLC, we collapse with excitement photo

A member of the ScoreHero forums snagged the latest issue of Official Xbox Magazine, which has none other than Rock Band on its cover. The issue contains the first game review (hint with no real spoilers: they really liked it), as well as details on some of the game's previously unannounced downloadable content.

While Activision/Neversoft seem fine with releasing three-song bundles, Harmonix have been adamant from the start that they'd also offer single tracks for download. From what OXM has revealed, that's not entirely true, but God damn if we're not excited for what's coming down the pipeline.

Single songs will indeed be available for download (three cheers for good stuff!), as will artist and genre packs. Artists revealed include Queens of the Stone Age, Black Sabbath, David Bowie, and more. A "punk" three-song pack is also detailed, and includes the Ramones' "Rockaway Beach" (which was playable in this year's E3 demo).

Hit the jump for more details, and be prepared to open up your wallet and give Harmonix all of your money.

  • Roxanne
  • Synchronicty II
  • Can't Stand Losing You

Wow, those tracks are amazing! I'm so pumped for this game, this has the potential to blow Guitar Hero out of the water. And concerning the downloadable content, Activision definitely needs to learn a lesson - Harmonix actually listens to their customers!!

I think you mean “My Iron Lung”.

This is unbelievable...I just wish we had a pricing structure and a release timetable for this stuff, but my pants are tightening as I type this anyway!

EA's finally gone and done it: They've made an infinitely expandable game. Instead of finding a way to release the same game every year and make us pay for it, they've found a way to release a game once, and make us keep paying for it without having to actually make anything new.

Please don't mistake me, however, for being anything other than a senseless Rock Band fanboy who will undoubtedly buy the game and all the cool downloadable tracks I can get my hands on.

EA had better just continue this structure of DLC and let Rock Band become the iTunes of videogaming. Of course, knowing EA, we'll be seeing Rock Band 2 promos this time next year.

Also, don't release any more single Weezer songs, just give me the damn Blue Album in its entirety already.

@ Fivestar:

I agree. I want the entire Blue Album, too. Same goes for Radiohead's The Bends. Wonder how they'll work that if they can get the rest of the albums -- will we be forced to buy the entire pack (and the same song again)? Will they be able to prorate it somehow? Or will we be able to download all of the songs individually?

I'll find out next week!

This is awesome. Even if GH3 has a better tracklist at the outset, Rock Band is quickly going to surpass it.

I wish they had other Weezer songs. I'd take all of Pinkerton, if they wouldn't mind.

I thought that they were planing to release entire albums as DLC for Rock Band? Are those still coming, too? If yes: Frigging awesome. Sick, sick, sick from QOTSA... oh boy, my neigbors ears will suffer.

Ya know, im thinking they should put in more songs to make the vocals more of a challenge. Stuff like the darkness or even bands that dont even have english lyrics. If they ever hope to make vocals as challenging as the drums or guitar can be I suggest they try bands like Molotov or B'z. yeah spanish rap rock and J-rock.. well how else are they gonna keep people from beating every song successively in the vocals on expert their first try?

Molotov

B'z

Oh and.. wheres the audioslave? Honestly They are perfect for this game. They gotta put up their whole first album for download.

I haven't been nearly as excited for Rock Band as I have been for GHIII, but this... this is genuinely interesting. Radiohead, Weezer, Foreigner, Police, Metallica, Black Sabbath, The Clash, CCR, T-Rex...

"Bang a Gong - T-Rex"

EL OH EL

Also this looks like some primo stuff. Much better than the crap GH has going for DLC. Now to see what they want for it...

Good grief. I'm no big fan of these rhythm games and whatnot, but these tracks are almost enough, by themselves, to make me want to get this game. Seriously, that is some choice selection. The Police? More Weezer? Radiohead? Queens of the Stone Age? Bowie? DO LOVE.
