OXM drops first Splinter Cell: Conviction co-op details photo

Official Xbox Magazine has the first details on Splinter Cell: Conviction's co-op modes, and yeah, they sound hot.

No, Sam Fisher won't be getting a partner. The six-hour, four-level prologue campaign puts players in the role of a Russian named Kestrel and an American named Archer. While many of the skills shown off for the single-player campaign remain intact, cooperatives-specific moves have also been added. An example has one player getting grabbed from behind and then being able to elbow his partner to get a better shot.

The OXM article also reveals another set of multiplayer modes collectively called "Deniable Ops." In "Hunter," players work together to take out all NPC enemies on a map. "Infiltration" is just like "Hunter," expect it must be done entirely using stealth. "Last Stand" has player fending off waves of enemies to protect a warhead. Finally, "Face Off" is a competitive mode where players face off against random AI-controlled enemies.

All in all, it sounds like Ubisoft is working to provide some decent experiences beyond the single-player, which already looks to be shaping up great. Look for a demo of Splinter Cell: Conviction in January in preparation for the game's release in February.

Sounds ok. I'm still not sure whether this is going to be a purchase or just a rental.

Sounds good but I must say I never got into Splinter Cell games. I don't know, they feel so generic and they pale in comparison to games like Hitman, Thief or MGS.

Six hours and it's not even the main campaign? Wow, looks like they're going all-out for Conviction. Most companies charge full-price for that, let alone a side co-op campaign. Sounds great.

Yes! Chaos Theory's co-op was so awesome. It's a shame Double Agent didn't live up to it.

Crap, posted too early.

@JynxShot Play Double Agent for the original Xbox. I consider it the better alternative.

"Defend"? That's not stealthy. That's how you LOSE in a stealth game.

Any word on if the co-op can be played locally? Online only co-op is mostly useless to me.

Does anyone know if they still have Spies vs Mercs? That's the only reason I buy splinter cell games.
