Over 2000 Rock Band tracks compatible with Pro Drums photo

You heard all about Rock Band 3's new Pro Mode, which basically lets you play the plastic instruments like they were real instruments and brings you one step closer to achieving your dreams of being a rock and roll superstar while simultaneously making me look like I have even less ability to follow a beat. You probably thought, "Well, that's great for all the songs going forward, but there are literally hundreds of songs already out that I want to Pro with the drums, but won't be able to because of they number of pads." You were sad.

But be sad no more! Harmonix has confirmed that it is updating the entire Rock Band catalog to work in Pro Mode with the drums -- for free. That's more than 2000 songs, including DLC and all imported songs. Daniel Sussman, Project Director for Harmonix, spoke of it in an interview and said:

This was planned from the beginning of the project. From the first day we decided to include this "extra-charting" because we wanted to be prepared in case the day came, and it posed no additional effort.

In a word, that is just awesome. This is exactly why Rock Band continues to shine throughout all of its iterations.

Harmonix makes my heart melt. I was really wondering what they were going to do about the "red pads are high-hats" sections from previous sounds. This completely sweetens the deal.

Not to be "that guy" but this isn't exactly new news. They've been saying this ever since everyone started crying over Legacy DLC (pre-RB3 DLC) getting updated.

HMX has been using the info that is used to chart Pro Druns for forever. They need it for animations plus when they get masters often times drums are recorded individually (snare, hi-hat, crash, etc.) and when you play the game if you hit one drum pad but not that other only that drum will play.

Try it sometimes. It's actually kinda neat.

So it's not an update per se. It's taking advantage of what's already in the code.

Anyways as a drummer this pleases me. Sucks that getting Pro on other instruments is still up in the air.

Also, something something header.

OMG THATS THE GUY FROM ONIMUSHA 2 RITE? Nice one Matt.

This sounds very exciting and reasonable at least.

What about adding piano to DLC tracks? I'm sure Somebody to love's guitar isn't going to be permanently set to the piano track.

Now I want to watch the Professional. I wish I was good enough at drums to take advantage of this. I can play expert mode on some songs but it's not like I can full combo Everlong. It's cool they thought this far ahead.

FUCK YES

That being said, it begs the question of why we didn't get this pro mode update with the Rock Band 2 cymbals. Oh well, at least I've been practicing with them most songs, mixing them in to try and simulate real drumming a bit better.

Honestly though, I'm most worried about them putting keyboard parts into the songs that really need it. "The Final Countdown," "Don't Stop Believing," so many songs by The Who - I might understand not all the songs getting it, but they need to take care of it for some iconic songs.

And if they can accomplish that, I really hope they consider taking care of harmonies. I would really love the option to have back-up singers in most of the songs, since not all my friends are up for Beatles or Green Day harmonies. Pro Guitar is less important to me, but I can't tell which one of these two updates would be more realistic to bet on.

Having the complete DLC set list for Pro Mode on drums is pretty fucking awesome, but what about the rest on the instruments?

@StealthMaster: I think you're severely underestimating the amount of work that is required between charting a song for regular five-button Rock Band guitar and Rock Band Pro guitar. With the drums, they're saying that they had the foresight to already code in the seven possible pads (four drum heads + three cymbals), so adding in the functionality now isn't out of the question, but to expect that they'd have done that with guitar is kind of ridiculous.

This has been known for a while but great none the less. I hope over time they update with Keyboards and Harmonies. If not, I have at least 5 people on my friends list with all RB DLC who will not be happy.

What about those 5 non-exportable songs from Rock Band 1? Huh? Nah, I'm just kidding, this is pretty amazing.

I don't care about all this. I just wanted to comment that "Leon" is an awesome movie.

Actually, 3 or 4 depending on whether you've got the NTSC or PAL version (the Tokio Hotel doesn't export either). However, people who've actually managed to extract the chart files from the RB1 disc noted that, in fact, ALL of the songs (including the non-exportable ones) would be compatible, IF they could be played in Rock Band 3. (Which makes sense, because maybe one day Metallica will let them export the track.)

Harmonix = the Valve of console gaming

This is just another reason to love this company. They already got your money for the old DLC and yet they are updating them to take advantage of cymbal charting free of charge.

Very classy, very classy indeed.

Haha... nice "Pro Mode" picture. My fav movie of all time right there. I'll just assume it's your way of telling me I made it to Round 3.

Hooray for retroactive drum tracks.
Now, can we get keys retroactively inserted into, at least, the disc-based Rock Band tracks? That includes Beatles: Rock Band too!

I wish they would do something for pro guitar, since the rock band 3 setlist is horrible I won't even get to use my pro guitar except on like 4 songs:( (Its smarter for them to save all the good songs for DLC but I sure won't be buying anymore songs)
