While our own super duper Destructoid review of Super Paper Mario will be coming soon, ye olde GameJew has done his own video thang on the new Wii title. Take a look and add your own two cents on what you think.
I picked this up last friday and i've been enjoying it so far, I'm not sure if that says it's a good game or i'm just happy to be using my Wii for something other than a paper weight.
The game is pretty good so far. I love the dialogue and sattire. I am error... I have never played a paper mario game, and wii is my first nintendo system, so its inventive and creative play is refreshing to me.It should hold me over for awhile.
I think it's a ton of fun. The characters are well done, the animation's smooth, the gameplay works well, and the script is (at times) hilarious. I highly recommend it.
I love the hell out of it. I found that the real difficulty with Paper Mario isn't the gameplay though, but finding out what to do next or how to figure out a certain puzzle. That's what an RPG is all about though, so if you're not into that kinda stuff, this isn't your game. For instance my lady is happily content to just watch me play, but still hesitant to pick up the controller - and she's addicted to traditional Mario platformers.
I love the randomness, humor, and varying gameplay though. Keeps my ADHD in check quite nicely.
Not to spoil too much, but there's an "uber-geek" character in the game, and the writing in that section is superb. It may hit a few of us a little too close to home, but it's hilarious either way.
Holy jesus mary and joseph. I can understand not liking rpg style dialog(verbose) or the rpg style fighting mechanics, but give me a break, he can't find the fucking princess?!?!?! that is inadvertent comedy gold baby!
You know what else is so great about the gamejew?? He uses his great dane as a foot stool just like I do with mine. GOD, the world would suck grapes without great danes.
I got the game when it came out, I like it but I borderline hate all the reading. I knew the game was going to have an rpg feeling but I was also expecting to be able to get into the actual levels quicker than I do. The script is well written I guess but its corny, so the reading is like torture. I dont mind reading when I'm playing Oblivion or even reading a little bit for mario, but I play mario games for the mario goodness of just jumping on things to kill them.
Yeah, I was excited when I bought this game, but it was a huge disappointment. Not because of the talking (you can speedily skip through all of that) but because it is way to easy. I've almost beaten the game and haven't even come close to dying once. No Mario game should be this easy. Also, enemies might as well be non-existent they're so easy to avoid or kill and the levels are easily navigated. The two essentials in Mario are either multiple, difficult enemies (SMB 3 and World) or levels that are difficult to navigate and will kill you if your jumping isn't perfectly timed. Huge disappointment. Damn.
bobtpooner - I agree but the way I look at it this is really a PAPER mario game. not a "true" mario game. the other paper marios were pretty easy too, they are more about style.
See, I loved the first Paper Mario (as well as Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga), even though it was dialogue heavy, but that's just me. It seems his only problem is with the RPG-ness of it, so I guess I should be take that as a recommendation, since I would have no problem with that. The only thing that worries me is the whole "don't know what to do" thing. I remember that DMV got stuck at some point and experienced a similar problem.
Meh, Mario games are classic and that's the only reason they're sorta fun still. I might play it, but I won't end up buying it. At least if I do, it would be for like a week and I'll trade it back in or CL the disc.
RE: the video. No one probably cares about it, because this is about the game I guess. But here are my 2 cents. Gamejew, please get some fucking lights and put on some clothes dude. Watching nintendo fanboys dress up like mario is weird enough. Being half naked and being exceptionally monotone is torturous. Thanks for the effort. Thanks for comin out.
Our GameJew?!? Why does everybody claim him like a piece of property, thousands of brave Americans died for these type of shenanigans to end. Did Screwattack trade him to you for some kind o' fancy cotton gin?
Don't worry about not knowing where to go. GameJew is clearly too spastic to pay attention to the forced dialogue that TELLS you where to go, or in other cases to simply follow the characters that went ahead of you.
I have played through the princess/soup portion. I read every word that was said (much of it aloud to my girlfriend). The whole affair took me less than 10 minutes, and part of that was finding the next heart pedestal (which is more platforming). If you've played the previous Paper Marios, it's just like those - there are major elements you're trying to collect (say, pure hearts for example); each chapter contains one of these elements, and after a chapter you get a sort of "break" puzzle to help further the story and break up the gameplay a little bit (In the GC version, these usually involved controlling Peach). It's intended to be a minor element, and if you pay attention to what people say, it is.
@ Genmo: Yup, we own him now. Soon he'll be put to work making toys for children at Xmas, baking cookies, and cobbling shoes. Wait, that's elves. What do jews do again?
If he can't even find Peach then he must really suck. That was like an hour or 2 into the game and wasn't even a puzzle, it was so obvious that my grandma could have found her.
Terrible review. I mean, 80% of it was GameJew face instead of the actual game, babbling sort of incoherently. You could use only 15-20 seconds to state the main (only) arguments. That's why you shouldn't review while playing.
Apparently GameJew hasn't heard of "effective lighting" for video. Not only that, he doesn't seem to bright (no pun intended), not to mention the fact that it looks like he lives in the middle of demilitarized zone. Are you guys really paying this kid?
Gamejew and Albert Hammond, Jr., separated at birth.

first paper mario was the shiz so ive been lookin forward to this one
2. some of the "rpg stuff" is too long, gamejew's right. never TOO bad though
3. the game gets exponentially better as you get into it. Very solid gaming but no mario galaxy.
recommended!
joshM - he is a jew, after all.
it's ok, I'm jewish.
Wow...I like the game, but wish it had none of that and was straight platformer...

Yes; I could do better.
