Our first real glimpse of Dawn of War II: Chaos Rising photo

Accompanying an incredibly short teaser trailer for the Chaos Rising expansion to Relic Entertainment's Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II is something slightly more useful: actual in-game screenshots. Oh joy!

Further digging on that THQ site lead me to find two things out. First, the game has glorious box art which will undoubtedly cause you to cry out "blood for the blood god" into the night, so don't even consider viewing Chaos Rising's cover when in a public place.

The second thing I figured out was that while the mighty Chaos Space Marines are in fact playable in multiplayer, that isn't the case for the rest of the game. It pains me to say this, but for single-player, you're going to be sticking with the Blood Ravens whether your like it or not.

Does DOW 2 have a pretty decently sized multiplayer community? I'd like to pick it up but I would hate to be a noob surrounded by nothing but veterans, or for it to be a chore finding a match. I dealt with that kind of shit for too long with Kohan and am done with niche titles with limited communities.

thats too bad, the only bad thing I can say about DoW II was the lack a campaign mode for the other races. orks, eldars, tyranids, they are all pretty good and deserved some more story

@Zeta Crossfire

You're going to have to wait a bit. In the 40K universe the Tau are a minor power, barely worth the attention of the Imperium of Man.

Even though the Tau are pretty popular due to their style and newness their popularity is still literally dwarfed by the popularity of fan favorites like Chaos and the Imperial Guard.

hmmm... i wonder whose is gonna be next to be brought into DoWII, my bet is Imperial Guard.

The Imperial Guard. I need them. NOW.
But besides the IG, I really enjoyed the Tau. I can say it'd be interesting using them in the kind of game DoW2 is. I don't expect them to come in a while, though. Just as well, I expect to see the IG after the forces of Chaos however.

It just seems if theres a expansion coming out that there should be more then 1 new race.

@Zeta Crossfire With all that just the commander by itself entails I think it might be to much balancing to effectively put in two races. I mean they recently just got the game relatively balanced and it's been out for a long ass time.

Eurrrghhh FFS games workshop/relic stop shoving blood angels down our throats, why could'nt you have made it a chaos campaign instead? Multiplayer sucks so basically the only way i'll see the chaos units is by fighting against them? Bullshit.

They arent shoving Blood Angels down your throat, this is Blood Ravens. Completely different Chapter. Pretty much all games use the Ravens, we havent had the Blood Angels featured in any Dawn of War game.

Blood Ravens are psyker heavy , traditionalist Space Marines with potential origination in the geneseed of a now Chaos Space marine chapter. Blood ANGELS are one of the original chapters, have a predilection for occasional berserker rages and enjoy drinking blood. And are FAR cooler than the Ravens

Well shows how uncharismatic they are then if I can't even be bothered to remember their chapter. Either way, lack of chaos campaign is still a fail in my book. I was ready to buy the chaos expansion as soon as dow2 came out (because lets face it, most if not all of the previous games races are inevitebly going to come out in expansions) but now I think ill pass.

The reason for this being just one race is likely because they substituted Tyranids for Chaos as being the forth race. So they now are gonna give us chaos by itself and then likely introduce the two race per expansion after this one. Hopefully, Imperial Guard in that!

@Silverhertz - I'm sure if you give it a few weeks someone will have a mod to substitute Chaos Marines for regular Marines in the campaign. There was an Imperial Guard mod within a month, and the original game only included a handful of guardsmen in the last mission for the modders to work with.

@Silverhertz The multiplayer is the only thing I love about the game. It has so much depth to the strategy! I didnt really care much for the single player.

Fucking Blood Ravens. Cock sucking, cookie cutter, mother fuckers. To death with them! How many fucking games does that make now? Jesus. Relic, get off of it already. The WH4K universe is bigger than one faction. For fucks sake. Fuck.

If I'm not too far out of the game, I remember GW specifically creating the Blood Ravens for use in the Dawn of War franchise back in... what? 2003-ish?
There were always veiled references that linked them to the Traitor Legions so my hope is that we will see some fresh development on that front. Maybe their origins will be revealed? The Add-On supposedly lets your Blood Ravens equip Chaos Tainted Wargear so my money's on epic drama.
