Our first (rather crappy) look at mutants in Metro 2033 photo

I have said this before and I'll say it again: I love how so many games are pushing the post-apocalyptic setting these days. Metro 2033 takes it one step further by throwing in the element of a harsh Russian winter, rather than opting for the dull shades of brown found in most other games.

To accompany some previews of the game from outlets other than us, quite a few new screenshots have made themselves available. I figured they'd be worth sharing regardless, so enjoy!

It's disappointing that we haven't really seen much of the mutants yet -- if you look closely, you can see some in these pictures. Kind of. I get the feeling Metro 2033 will be enjoyed by many for its fairly unique setting, but will ultimately be hurt by technical issues.

Then, a bunch of dedicated modders will swoop in, clean things up, and there will be much rejoicing.

Russians, winter, post-apocalypse, mutants

I'm sold already. Those are my favorite things all in one package!

this seems like an interesting take on the post-apocalyptic world.

"Then, a bunch of dedicated modders will swoop in, clean things up, and there will be much rejoicing."

Just like STALKER, then. Which, after the cleanup, is one of the best shooter-RPGs around.

This game continues to look really amazing to me. The innovation and real PC pushing nature of the Russian gaming scene is incredible. I know a lot of people that are still PC gamers just to play these Russian games.

This looks great. Like STALKER's second cousin.

It's good to know in advance that my computer will never be able to run this–at least not anywhere near those screenshots' quality–but damn this looks cool. I really ought to get back into STALKER, this time patched into functionality rather than vanilla.

I will be playing this on a console. The setting of this book/game is very interesting. Even if there are tiny glitches (fallout/oblivion) I will still love the game for it's story, setting, and voice acting. Hmmm I just got an idea for a cblog.

Hope they don't forget the AKM like STALKER did (but was modded in later.) The crappy little AK74 just doesn't cut it.

I didn't even realize it was scheduled for a 360 release. That is cool, I think everyone should have the chance to play the game, but I would be wary of the quality of the console port. Games from these small dev teams meant for PC and then ported to console can often be shabby ports.

what means "Our first (rather crappy) look"? when I understand it right it means that the OUR FIRST LOOK IS CRAPPY...right?

I watched the trailer for this on XBL a few weeks back, and it looked stunning. Let's hope that it is.
