The whole "you aren't walking around a creepy place with more firepower than Rambo, Plissken, Robocop, and that manly chick from Aliens combined" thing sure does make videgames scarier, huh?
Can't say that I've ever played anything with Penumbra in the title before, but people seem to like those games. Why yes, Amnesia: The Dark Descent is being made by those same folks at Frictional Games. What gave it away?
The game is set for a simultaneous release on PC, Mac, and Linux later this year; August seems likely at this point. It's already up for pre-order, where you can save a few bucks. Otherwise, it'll cost $20 when it hits Steam.
If movies have taught me anything, it's that upon seeing a room full of dead animals on meat hooks, it's time to get a movin' before the dude with the face made of leather notices you.
Jordan Devore is Destructoid's PC gaming manager and founding ginger editor. He is said to be easy to love but difficult to know. When Samit inquired about his curious bio photo Jordan simply replied: "bitches love sandcastles" ... yet, there is no sandcastle in that photo. We may never truly understand his ways.

BRAVO, here I was thinking that games can't scare me anymore because all survival horror games have turned into bullets spewing action against countless hordes of zombies and here we have coming an awesome atmospheric game from the guys that brought Penumbra. When I was watching this video I almost felt like I was there and running scared of that apparition. Amazing job this guys are doing there. Hat's off to them.
The two games play nothing alike, nothing. Have you played either games? I've played some of both and they're not in the least similar control scheme or otherwise.
Wow. They are always topping themselves!! That looks incredible!! Pre-order here I come! It is so rare these days for games to be genuinely scary or emotionally engaging at all, so this looks to be a breath of fresh air as is Heavy Rain. :)
Looks like surround sound would help; if you can't see what you're running from, you'll need to hear it.
Petty dumping of the day: The player's lantern shouldn't lean when he does, it looks silly.
As a fan of old-style PC adventure games, I rather enjoyed Penumbra. I mean, it makes a blatant Half-Life reference. For the love of Gordon Freeman, how can you not love that?
This looks great. I've been rather critical of many self-professed horror games because of the domination of RE4-style horror (not saying that was a bad gaem; but like the article noted, you're walking in armed to the teeth).
Hopefully we can get some more Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners style games going (which was very Cthulhu-esque, riiiiight up until the end ): ). Or Penumbra.
Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
What? o_O

Now that was some scary shit.
