Our first glimpse of Double Fine's Costume Quest photo

Ah, so this is Double Fine's Costume Quest. As you might have guessed based on its trademark, it does, in fact, have to do with Halloween.

UGO, who has the exclusive, describes it as feeling "like a lost SNES role-playing adventure ported in high-definition 3D." Looking over the screenshots, it appears as if kids are fighting monsters in badass-ified versions of their Halloween costumes. I like where this is going!

Costume Quest will be an Xbox LIVE Arcade and PlayStation Network title, with its release appropriately set for October 31, 2010.

In reality, it's a dating sim.

I cannot wait. Double Fine, imo, has yet to do wrong.

This won't turn into a mediocre strategy game halfway through will it? cause I'm in if it doesn't.

Hmm, an arcade title actually may be a good avenue for double fine. Their games strength's don't really rely on the blockbuster format that all retail games seem to require these days. Maybe this will allow them to focus on things their a lot more passionate about.

I predict a turn-based puzzle game with tower defense elements.

For real though, this looks pretty cool. I like Halloween!

That is a screenshot that makes me happy inside. I am sad, however, that people are still poking fun at them for Brutal Legend.

I'm not really digging the art style yet- compared to the other Double Fine games, this one looks a bit... off. I think it's the clean cel-shaded look. Still, it's Double Fine, so I trust their judgment and eagerly await a new title from them.

And for those Double Fine Action Comics readers out there, this game is being headed by the super awesome and cute as a button Tasha Harris, of the Tasha comics (and Tasha flash game) fame!

Remember - if you make a mountain of great, top-notch games and one mediocre one, you are a mediocre developer. It's a scientific fact.

I'll be getting this. I love Double Fine, and I love Halloween. It's double the love.

@Wanderingpixel, I guess we are the only ones that did. It's sad when I went to go play the multiplayer the other day and I couldn't find one person. :(

Anyways, I am more than willing to try any game Double Fine pushes out. Count me in.

@ the7k: Uhh....They haven't made a mountain of great games. They've made one "great" game, psychonauts, and then Brutal Legend.

So they've still got to prove themselves in my eyes. One great game doesn't mean shit.

That said, I'll be watching this one.

The article title is "Our first glimpse". Don't you fell that is a little misleading, as it is 1UP's preview and you are just rewriting their article?

It's certainly unlike Double Fine's other games. It looks great, though.

I'm actually a bit surprised they already announced one of their games. The break between Psychonauts and Brutal Legend was muuuuuuch longer.

@Roager: It makes me sad too, and questioning what sort of game this really is was one of my first thoughts. I wish I didn't dislike Brutal Legend as much as I ended up disliking it. Psychonauts made me lose perspective in that it basically is one of the few 3D platform adventure games I've enjoyed, and I love me some platform games. So I thought, if he gets what makes platformers fun, then what could they do wrong.

Brutal Legends wasn't wrong, though...I was, and now I know, I need to be sure I don't blindly trust my favorite developers.

The thing with Brutal Legend was that it was specifically made for people who like metal. The developers were basically like- "if you don't like metal. fuck off." And I loved that about it, I thought the game was awesome.
