The original Killzone is scheduled to infiltrate the PlayStation Network on January 24, in an announcement that came out of nowhere. It will be a straight port, not a revamped HD version, and it'll cost you $9.99.
Killzone is one of the most famous examples of dangerous pre-release hype. The PS2 exclusive was labeled a "Halo Killer" almost immediately, and while the final product was pretty good, the failure to live up to ludicrous expectations did some damage to its reputation.
Guerrilla would see similar pre-release controversy with Killzone 2, when a pre-rendered E3 trailer was presented as in-game footage. Needless to say, that didn't go over well, but the game itself was still excellent.
I haven't played the original since it released in 2004, but I'd love to give it another whirl. Playable characters voiced by Sean Pertwee? You bet I'm all about that.

This game was okay, but it was severely lacking. I was honestly surprised that Sony was going to bother with a sequel, let alone two, and make it such a thing to fuss over the series at all, cause this one seemed like such a flop.

Funny how Sony has a long standing tradition of lying to its customers at E3. No trolling, just an observation on how they stepped it up a bit last year with all those bonus' promised that people only got because they noticed they were missing and bitched about it.
The original Killzone was great, with the exception of some graphical and audio glitches. If they can iron those out (ideally I would like to see it at 60FPS) then it's an instant purchase for me.
So why can't I play my 60+ PS2 game library of them on the PS3? Why do I have to shell out $10 fucking dollars to play games I already bought for $50?
Someone please tell me the reason.
I'm talking about beyond the greed.
Is there a reason, other than greed, that I can't pop in Dragon Quest 8 and play it? Or is Sony truly just being a chlamydia riddled cunt here?
Because the hardware to run PS2 discs was only in a few PS3 models and has since been discontinued with the system?
Not to mention that if you send in your backwards compatible unit for repair they take it out without telling you.
I guess this is cool for people who really care about the series, but I'd honestly say to skip this like the plague. Killzone 1 is better left to memory.
I already have this on ps2
However, Rico. Eurgh. Hopefully KZ4 will have an unlockable mode where you can just make him commit seppuku over and over.
But I've always hated Halo. I mean come on guys, it's fucking shite.
Killzone ..was...GOOD?? REALLY?!?! I may not be the God among men that you are.. but I do know shit when I play it, and uh.. Killzone was shit!!
I have the PS3 CECHE01MG with backwards compatibility, and the KZ1 disc runs a lot smoother than it did on the actual ps2.
Anyway played this back when KZ2 came out! It was pretty hard and ugly and i had to fight with the controls! Time has mos def not been kind!
Only hard-core fans of the first game should try this because you need a thick set of rose-colored glasses even as a fan. I’m actually shocked they went for a straight port with this since it is a first party game worthy of a little late in life TLC.
