I love Steam and I have a billion games on it.. but EA's customer service is actually much > then Valve's.
@ epic,
"buying it on 360."
I can't think of a better example of cutting off your nose to spite your face.
"You won't get to play your games that you purchased from various publishers if Valve closes it's doors."
False.
Grow the fuck up people, it's not even like they're forcing you to pick Origin, you can still go to other digital stores.
They're boasting that this game is going to beat MW3...But that will NEVER happen if they don't put it on Steam. Never.
Oh well. Maybe they'll finally get it through their skulls that they'll never beat CoD...Ever.
- Firstly, not everyone lives in the US or Canada, etc, a lot of people do not have access to retail copies, and if they do, they are marked at least 60% over their USD price.
- Secondly, have you even used Origin? They had some great deals last winter, so I gave it a try and bought Bad Company 2 and Shift 2 as well. It's nice that you don't need to run Origin to run your games, but other than that, the interface is TERRIBLE, it is buggy and it doesn't manage automatic updating either. It's also slow, and very badly designed.
Steam gets its loyalty because it's an awesome platform, giving MW3 free reign over Steam is only shooting yourself on the foot. This is a stupid decision and you know it.
I think the point everyone who says that "well (insert random valve game here) isn't on another service so why bitch about this" is missing is that Steam already has a loyal fanbaseand most if not all pc players have a Steam account. Not everyone likes EA or likes Origin. Origin is such a new service from a company no one trusts that people are naturally not gonna bit. That with the fact two of EA's previous titles (Crysis 2 and DA2) where frankly not as good as their previous installments. So people are naturally worried that BF3 might follow the same trend as those two.
No I haven't played DA2, but I heard it was shit across all plateforms. Crysis 2, ehh it was alright, but also a step down from Crysis. I'm I giving EA one more chance with BF3, yes, if they fuck up will their be another, no.
People who buy the boxed copy of Battlefield 3 will also need to bind their copy to Origin as all PC games nowadays rely on updates and of course multiplayer.
Plugging in your service to games is considered sound business practice since that's how Steamworks works for non-Valve games. It is EA's history of bad customer treatment that makes me not want anything to do with them.
It's funny how DICE is willing to take all this knowing full well how Origin is a degradation to their title. I guess their game is not that good if they have to cater to EA's whims and not the other way around. It doesn't matter though. Battlefield 3 has a good technology in it. It is not an original game since its game design is based on the original Team Fortress 2: Brotherhood of Arms design document. It is not a hard game to imitate or surpass. I would even dare go into saying Crytek can probably copy Battlefield 3's designs and run it on their engine. Since they're of the same talent level of "they're okay".
It's not about Steam having done the same thing Origin is currently doing. It's about EA having a history of being assholes.
Valve wants you to love Steam so you'll buy more stuff. EA wants to blackmail you into buying from Origin. They're tying the porkchop (Battlefield 3) around their ugly baby (Origin) so the dog (you) would play with him.
If you understand that then you'd probably understand why I'm more of an Origin hater than a Steam lover.
I'm an American and I live in South Korea as an English teacher and there are a lot of us EXPATS out there across the world. Here's the crapper thing. ORIGIN takes your IP address and converts the language to that region, AND THERE IS NO OPTION TO CHANGE IT!
Origin is NOT customer service friendly on a broad sense. EA needs to get it's greedy head out of it's @SS. So even if I caved in to ORIGIN I couldn't anyway as I can't get the damn thing to change the language to English!
