Anyway, no big deal. Not on steam, not on my harddrive.
I just hope they don't do the same with Mass Effect 3.
They already kinda did

That being said, what's wrong with buying a physical, retail copy of the game? Will you catch the plague if you step foot outside your computer room? Or is this some sort of hip elitist thing done "out of principle" that I never caught on to?
FUUUUUUUU-
At least it's only making a special edition exclusive. I'd still prefer to use Steam but so long as they make some version of it available I'm happy. Still it just seems stupid. If they only put a cheaper, non-special edition up on Steam than they'll be getting less money from me.
Battlefield 3 on consoles is already gimped - I think the PC version has literally THREE times the amount of maximum players. If I wanted small scale combat, I'd play Modern Warfare. Battlefield has always been about large scale combat, and I can only get that on PC...which I would want on Steam...or not!
@Pokota
It's the fact that it NEEDS an Origin account. I have so many damn accounts it's insane. I don't want to have to make ANOTHER Origin account when I already have an EA account. I'll just get it used down the line when they break, and put it on Steam.
EA have some pretty big titles under their belt, it won't cripple Steam but it's quite a significant loss to Valve.
With the no-mods/no-steam drama they wont sell a shit on PC, and I will be so glad.
Origin feels like uncle Carl's salty breath clinging to the back of your neck like a sickly sweet fog from hell.
@Magnalon
If that's the most important thing to you, then so be it. For me, the game itself is the important element. I'm not going to give up on something I really want to play because I have to make another account.
Doesn't matter to EA if it would have made more money on steam...at least on Origins all the money would go ti them.
Besides you could just buy the retail or console version.
It's a new service by the same guys that sells every year a game with only a roster update, charging you $60, so why all the surprise?
I'm just pointing out that when Portal 2 was announced to one called Valve dicks because it was only available on Steam digitally. In fact, when Steam gets any sort of exclusive no one ever complains. There was nothing of this sort when the headcrabs were announved as a Steam exclusive in Super Meat Boy. You know what, when GoG announced some exclusive per-order deals on their service for The Witcher 2, I didn't hear anything negative either.
So if it's a service most people already like, it's no longuer a dick move to hold exclusives? Valve never removed their games from other services because they never had any games on other services, but hey that's totally cool, because Steam is awesome, right? I have to wonder, if Battlefield 3 had become a Steam exclusive, would gamers still find this to be a dick move?
If it was Steam only, meaning it's the only way to play it on PC & there wouldn't be a console version, then yes. We'd still make a big deal about it. The main reason people are dissapointed is because it was already confirmed for Steam before all of this oirigin nonsense. And when ea tries to strutout Origin like it's som prissied up whore by making it unable to work on steam, but all of these other digital retailers can work it, then.....well here we are.
Valve invented the "petty feud" over this stuff. I don't see people getting pissed that you can't buy a brand new Civic at a Ford dealership, or a Dell in the Apple Store. Petty? You clearly don't know the meaning.
You could always make an digital ISO of the disc, and just mount it on Daemon, but I know what you mean.
Seriously, I really don't see a problem with it. You don't launch your own digital distribution service, with the power EA has, and then relinquish any part of your most anticipated published title's profits to anyone else. They may lose out on a majority of the market at first...but Christ people, you can STILL get the game elsewhere.
I may be biased though considering I have absolutely no interest in the game itself.
If I was super excited for the game, I'd probably bend over and take it from EA, make an Origins account, and play it.
But I'm an on-the-edge customer (of which there are millions), and I don't feel like registering for Origins, and getting sucked into another ecosystem. I like my Steam ecosystem, because it offers pretty much everything, the wallet is convenient, it's secure, and it's easy to access everything. The more ecosystems I buy into, the less secure my information is.
