Oregon Trail coming to DSiWare photo

(Insert witty comment about dysentery here).

The iPhone remake of The Oregon Trail is coming to DSiWare, the ESRB has revealed today with one of its bean-spilling ratings. The original game is fondly remembered by many gamers who learned about the pioneer way of life thanks to the venerable old title.

"Bears may attack, snakes can bite, robbers will loot, and diseases do come ("You have died of . . ."), but the hardened traveler is expected to overcome these unfavorable events to reach the promised Pacific Northwest," explains the ESRB. "If disease or injury is left untreated, family members will fall to the ground and die, leaving headstone icons in their wake."

I like it when DSiWare gets something vaguely interesting.

Huh,my history teacher was talking about the original one today.
He always failed because he didn't let his people rest.

Ah, I remember sitting around playing the original Oregon Trail in grade school. We'll see if this is cheap enough to justify a purchase.

What the..?! How did they get that much money? The challenge is gone if you're THAT rich!

DSi still sucks. No GBA slot is a deal breaker for me.

Hunting buffalo was the best part of the journey. People are dying of dysentery? Time to go hunting! Feed that dysentery to death!

Damn you Nintendo. First Flip Note Sudio and now this. Guess I'm going to end up getting a DSi, unless I get an iPhone/iTouch first.

Wouldn't it make more sense to ride in the wagon, and not walk the whole way there?

Oh man, Oregon Trail 2 was THE game to play back in middle school. We would always name the characters after friends or relatives, then watch as they died from horrible diseases or starved to death when we ran out of bullets and food. A port of Oregon Trail II would be awesome, but I guess a new interface could work.

Jim, is there an English equivalent of Oregon Trail? Like, South London Trail?

I think fondly is a bit of a stretch. I was a Number Munchers man, myself.
